I have a 2004 Double Cab tacoma 2wd. I was wondering what the "special edition" stickers on it mean. Is it something from the factory or dealer? It has 18" BBS wheels, roof rack (had a roof rack), truxedo bed cover, lighted running boards. This is my first tacoma. Also I need opinions on supercharger. I am about to hit 100K miles and am wondering if its too late in the game to get one. Also I called the dealer about a 100k mileage tuneup. They told me it would cost about 1500 to do. Sounds ridiculous to me but I don't know much about automotive. The only thing I do to the taco is change oil and filter, rotate tires, and change air filter. Never changed a plug or belt. Should I change plugs. Belts look good to me (no cracks). What about timing belt?

timing belt should have been replaced at 90K per the FSM as well as the water pump and prob the thermostat

that in and of itself accounts for $600-$800 of that $1500

there was no "special edition" persay of the Tacoma in 2004

there was a "Limited" model but that was denoted by special badging that matches all the other badges on your truck...someone slapped some "special edition" stickers on there for you

Should a newbie attempt replacing the above parts. Or should someone mechanically inclined do it. I am purchasing a Haynes repair Manual from autozone regardless. Thanks for the quick response.

def not the timing belt, and the water pump is hard to get to, just get it done at the dealer or an automotive shop.

Occasional 'special edition' packages were available in certain sales regions or locations. Some such 'special editions' were done by dealerships themselves.

Such 'special editions' have always been most common in the Southeast and Gulf States sales regions.

Your 'special edition' is not 'factory'. For one thing - the Double Cab factory roof rack was discontinued by early 2003.
