Not sure if you guys have seen this but wikipedia says that tacomas are being used over in Iraq. With some mods, like a machine gun mount. Wish I had a machine gun today when on a road trip from New Hampshire to Coloraldo, I almost got run off the road by some jackass that while driving his mercury suv, was sticking his head out the sun roof. I sh++ you not. Sticking his head out the sun roof, why you may ask I have no idea. Will Darwin remove this humanoid from the gene pool? I hope so I really do.

Yea, apparently easier to outfit in the US and ship than buy hilux or patrol over there.

THey're also using GM3500s and I was told, ford but never seen one.

Never seen the tacoma either. Is it SOF or contractors.

    Really?...

Not really a 2nd gen specific thread considering the Tacoma's used in theater by SF were 1st gen!

When I was over in the sand box we delivered 2nd gen tacomas, in 2008-2009. Not sure if they were ever used by contractors or what but we loaded them up and discharged them in the mid east.

Those things don't look "modded up" at all. wonder if they put bulletproof blanket in the fenders or something. Seems a little anti, Geneva conventions.. but maybe if you cover up your uniform with cars that aren't clearly marked its ok technically, but definitely seems against intent. You're trying not to confuse people into shooting civilians.

You mean stuff like this (and 4 wheeled truncated versions and the like?)

Cause those aint no civillian black ops things. You generally don't see civillian "black ops" things. That's kind of the point. If you want to be seen you hire army guys or whatever. Those are just used for any old excursion. EOD has some, as do, crap I forget the initials that go with it. Bomb part pickup groups.. but I've seen the infantry with them too.

Caution to others about painting their chrome...

Still don't like the idea of uniforms operating in civilian vehicles.

Sorry for the resurrection. But came upon this thread and this photo made me LOL.

Something about this photo makes me think these aren't 'cool guys' but some type of comm/supplt support troops that need escort by 'cool guys' when in bad guy land.

First, they are driving a BRIGHT RED truck in a tactical environment.
Second, the bed is FULL OF CHOW - no water, fuel, ammo, weapons, CHOW

    LOL, :D

    Lots.
^True about them blending in with the locals. But, I've also heard that the sand is so fine over there that it gets past the air filters and tears the engines apart. Toyotas are probably a bit more reliable than their American counterparts.

Never had it get through the filter in to the engine. Definately had it clog the outer part of the filter causing loss of power.

Extreme case was engine shutdown, but PMCS failure attributed to that one (operator did not blow out air filter.)

I only rode in a Tacoma a few times over there, Hilux are actually used a lot. Other than cut fenders and larger tires there were never any performance mods. Most had IR lights cut into the grill and a hoop to mount a 240/249, I think I remember one with a MK19. Lots of sawzall mods, big radios, normally a reinforced front bumper. Often the reinforced bumper just caused frame damage when the bumper was used. I have not been in theater in several years but I never saw a 2nd gen Tacoma being used over there. Actually, 01-04 DC is all I have ever seen used by Special Ops. I used to see a 95-97 Reg cab around Bagram used by who I think were psyops.
