long story short: what is the best way to run a vita mix blender off my trucks power.

My daughter requires blended meals to put threw a g-tube. Our family loves camping and we are trying to figure out how to make this all work. Usually we would just bring the blender and plug it in in the state park bathroom and blend away. Then apologize to anyone in there for the noise and go on our way. We are getting sick of camping so close to so many people and getting the itch to get out and explore some of our forest service roads. This is all well and good, but without being able to run the blender we are limited with how long we can go out. Keeping the blended food fresh is tricky, so we are hoping to find a good way to power things.

Anything helps. Car electricity is new to me as I have not messed with it much. Thanks all!

Can you post the brand/model blender? We need to see how many amps it draws.

Sr5. No bed outlet, though I could find a way to put one in?

The blender. 120v 50/60hz 11.5 amps. We have tried smaller, but they can’t whip up the food enough to get it through the tube. Why did they put a 90deg bend in the tube Without making the diameter large? Grrrr

I can tell you it would probably be better ro buy a small generator to be able to pull that current. Thats quite a bit, like 1500 watts.

You can get small 1000w inverter generators for a few hundred dollars or a more powerful inverter to alligator clip off the battery.

Are you willing to pay a bit more for something portable and useful? If so, NOCO battery pack. It might work. It's a vehicle battery booster/starter but has ports that uses usb or cigarette lighter, buy converter from cigarette lighter to outlet and bam you have a portable power source. How much power depends on the pack you buy (I run my portable air compressor). So it might work with a blender and doubles as a started if you get stranded where All State can't pick you up lol

I've got the bed outlet and I know the blender your talking about , unfortunately I don't think it has enough power to do it. Might start it up but then die out. That's pulling a lot of power. I'd try to look for a small portable generator.

You are right, I didn’t see the numbers before posting. A 2k inverter generator starts to get pricy. I don’t know how long the blender has to run but a 2k inverter on the trucks battery with the truck running should still be safe.

That's a lot of power - something on the order of 1500W. You could get a 2000W continuous inverter, but you'd have to hook it directly to the battery. Not cheap, but smaller and cheaper than getting a gas generator. I'd definitely want to be running the truck when I used the inverter, and for a while after to recharge any battery draw.

$200 is pretty cheap for a generator. Regardless, the generator will give them a portability so if they camp 500 ft from the truck it's no big deal wherever he gets it. 1500 watts is a lot from the truck no matter how they do it.

How about using an extra battery that you could charge at the camp and leave in the bed in a box? A marine battery might be better for this application.
