I would just drive the legal speed limit and have a nice and mellow/relaxed cruise on the highway for the duration of your road trip. Maybe drive at night if possible for less traffic and headaches.

The faster you drive, the faster components move, the rate of component wear goes up.

I have a buddy that was bitching about his transmission dumping at 139,000 miles. It's because he drives close to the speed limiter.... a lot.

I am a (partially) reformed Dallas asshole. (I learned it from you, Houston!) :anonymous: I slowed down three years ago, it wasn't worth the anger and stress to try to fight traffic, now I just run with the flow when it's crowded, and a measly 80 when it's empty.

Over New Year's I had an interesting revelation. Coming home from a camp trip in Arkansas, pulling the trailer, I set the cruise at 70, speed limit was 75. I was getting passed by drivers that had gone so far beyond ludicrous speed they were leaving plaid tracks in the left lane. Normally I would be on their rear bumper trying to overtake their ass, but on a drizzly, hung over, New Year's Day I was too tired to care.

On long stretches of boring interstate you start to recognize certain cars that you see more than once. Usually for me it was when I'd go flying around the same 18-wheeler after a quick fuel stop. This time, however, I was the one getting my doors blown off - first by a muddy subaru, then a few minutes later a blue Tundra with three fishing poles leaned against the tailgate. Two hours later, I get passed again, there's the scubaru, there goes Fishin' Tundra. An hour and a half after that, I'm downtown, trying to survive Dallas long enough to get on the west side of the madness. Fishin' Tundra comes flying by again.

Ah-ha, I say to myself. Here I am, getting not-great mileage because of the trailer, and yet I still had fewer stops than the Tundra wanting to drive 90. So much so that we arrived at our destination at the same time. Actually, my trip time was just slightly better than it was a couple of years ago. It made me really question why I was burning so much gas over the years.

Get caught going fast enough in GA and you will get a "super speeder" ticket and/or get hauled off to jail.

After the Smokey and the Bandit embarrassment, GSP dont play around anymore.

    GA400 exit 13 comes to mind. :)

That's debatable. At this point, I think it's for revenue generation.
