This guy again??? I thought we made it clear on that other rant about how it's completely retarded of you to think that ANYONE would be able to discern whether you were wearing your "Suicidal Tendencies" ball cap going the opposite direction and passing you at any rate of speed. You were let off with a warning right? I bet he let you go because he likes guys who rock cool leather jackets and suicidal tendencies ball caps....See what I did there...We all can dream up ridiculous ideas.

Don't know if this has ever happened to ya'll - but I have experience in this realm  +7 tickets for 15+mph. I have never once had a ticket get posted on my driving record when out of state if I paid before the court date. The one time I did show up I lost and it went on my record. Of course next renewal of insurance my premiums went up. I would say pay the ticket and pray it doesn't get posted on your driving record. VT cops can be dicks - I got a warning up there for not slowing down fast enough (speed limit hadn't even changed yet). Good luck OP

I'm curious about the $50 court fee if you lose. How do they get away with it?

This is the entire problem with the legal system in the US. The loser of every lawsuit should pay the court and legal cost of both parties. It would prevent large rich corporations from suing small companies and individuals to the point it breaks them. They do this in England. It makes you very sure you have a winning case before going to trial. In the US you can win and still have a huge legal cost which is worst than the injustice itself.

If you really think you are in the right and can PROVE it, then you should fight the ticket. If you have no proof (your word, while I'm sure honorable, isn't proof) that you were in the right. Can you get the radar/laser gun records before deciding? This would be the last time it was certified.

You all are seriously missing the point here. The OP has already admitted that while he feels he wasn't going 61....he also WAS going above the posted speed limit (much like a weight limit...if you exceed this..... bad things could happen). Notice how I said "could". Sux he was the one that got burned that day, but I'm sure there are numerous other occasions in which he and the rest of us have not been caught.

OP, Just pay it and move on bro. Unless your stuck on the whole 61 vs. 59 thing...then by all means fight it, get the judge to admit that you were doing 59, and then still get found guilty and have to pay travel fees (twice, see above previous post), court costs, and the fine that you coulda just paid out to begin with. Lifes a garden, dig it.

My handheld radar detector isn't picked up until I squeeze the button. There have been a ton of instances where I radared someone and they immediately slammed on the brakes down to the speed limit. When I pulled them over, they had a radar detector. I explain that I radared them at X speed, watched them slow down to Y speed, and I noticed they have a radar detector. When there is a radar detector, it usually ends with the words "sign here". That being said, I don't enjoy writing tickets unless someone really deserves it for doing something reckless, but I can't let everyone go.

why should he pay it and just give up so easily ? not everyone is made of money, some of us have more time than money.

Many suspects who plead innocent are actually guilty, yet someone still has to defend them in court and they still have a right to fight it and go to trial.

True but you are talking about completly diff. types of ppl in your scenario. You are reffering to people who actually qualify for the lawyer that "May be provided free of charge" ie. public defender. Someone who is contemplating a 6hr. road trip to fight a speed tix probably does not fit in this category.

Is it worth $4k in lawyer fees to fight a speeding tix? Especially when OP has already admitted he WAS speeding...he just doesn't think he was going 61?

See if you can make phone contact with him. Discuss the ticket and see if he will reduce the fine. Remember to address him as "SIR"Do not display any type of negative attitude or be cocky in any way what so ever. Remember, YES SIR AND NO SIR during the conversation. If it doesnt work, pay the fine by mail and forget about it. Good luck if you decide to go down that path.

Definitely understand the right to trial, not knocking that at all. If something was done to me or against me or I did something (not a traffic infraction), I would be the first to exercise that right.

But traffic infractions, that aren't being reported to insurance or DMV? And mail in fines reduce the points? Pay the dang thing and move on.

I'm not assuming anything. I simply stated that some should just take responsibilty for their actions.
