Pay the fine and get on with your life while watching your "over the limit" speeds. Most cops will allow a few mph grace, but go too far above and you only have yourself to blame.

Also, I'm betting you already got away with a lot of stuff that was illegal. So, this:

When I got my ticket I didn't fight it but I did get it reduced to a non moving violation. The extra $$$ for a attorney was well worth keeping it from hitting my insurance. Still paid my fine but the ticket was waived.

Is there a reason that you won't pay the fine if you were speeding?

I think he's arguing that he was not going as fast as the ticket states, so he should not have to pay such a high fine, that it would be lower if the ticket stated an accurate speed.

20 MPH over the posted speed is a line in the sand that many states have. Fines go way up after that, and in some states the classification for the offense also ratchets up. It moves into the class of reckless driving. No idea about NH.

    ... ^^^ ... Ditto ...That's what I was saying in post 31.

But the "ticketing agency" basically said ... "no reporting to the state or insurance company". ... with 20 MPH over ...

If you knew about this blatant disregard for pedestrian safety by a speeding motorist, why didn't you immediately report your prior observations to your local PD?

... or is it that you'd rather a cop get off his butt and fight "actual crimes", than write a speeding ticket??????

yeah like all the crooked cops that blow people away, get paid time off, get convicted and get a slap on the wrist, one year house arrest maximum..

Does Amado Diallo ring a bell ? how about LAPD's Corrupt Rampart division ? or Perhaps that overzealous, BART cop (just a glorified mall cop with a badge) Johannes Mehserle that blew away that kid that was already handcuffed? I can go on and on all day with perfect examples but there's too many LEO schlong smokers around here to actually be heard out with an open mind..

Cops are a gang of their own, LA county recently sheriffs got busted for having their own little gang of crooked cops that had their own tattoo's and initiations like beating the hell outta inmates whenever they feel like it

What do you do for a living?

I am by no means defending anything that these individuals have done. In fact I would be the first one to openly scorn these individuals. To pass judgement on an ENTIRE profession seems a bit like....oh IDK...stereotyping, or profiling?

YOu hit it right on the nail, but isn't that what law enforcement does best ?? But it's justified when they do it because they hide behind a badge right

every profession has liars, cheaters, and rotten people. only difference is you get away with breaking the same laws you supposedly enforce

I'm sure you will never EVER call a cop when you need their help, right? NEVER.

Were you an inmate that was a victim to this? How did it turn out? Did you get restitution?

Um, wow, had no idea this would turn into a 10 page discussion. I'm going to pay it, in the long run I don't think it's worth it to gamble a possible extra $100 more in payment and possible court records or insurance premium increase. It's only speeding, no reckless driving or other citations, and it won't be reported to my insurance. If the cop had been polite I'd consider it, the one and only time before this I was given a ticket the cop actually told me to plead not guilty and show up in court. This VT guy had an attitude and was clearly going to give me a ticket no matter who I was and what I said, and trust me I was very polite. Thanks for all the replies and I can see where both sides are coming from.

I still maintain and am sure I wasn't going 60 but have no way to prove that and no defense which is why I'm paying. I won't be back in Vt the rest of this year for sure so I'm not worried about a VTdriving record.

Ah, so you did, sorry for repeating! I did a little searching about NH laws and found that the classification changes at 25 over, BUT at 21 over the fines double. Even though LEOs are contributing to this thread, not one has mentioned that the 61mph claimed is a magic number. That is common in most states. They all know where the breaks are, and that is why you never get pulled over for 10 over. Little fish aren't worth cleaning. The difference between 60 and 61 in this case is over $100. Could be the OP wasn't paying enough attention, but a little dishonesty on the part of the cop could also go a long way.

    Copied from the interweb:
Few Sampling of New Hampshire Traffic Fines:
For some crimes, it may be deemed fair or even lenient, while some people will undoubtedly consider their New Hampshire traffic fine too much regardless of the actual cost. Below are few sampling of typical New Hampshire traffic fines:
*Speeding 1 to 10 miles per hour over the speed limit—$50.
*Speeding 11 to 15 miles per hour over the speed limit—$75.
*Speeding 16 to 20 miles per hour over the speed limit—$100
*Speeding 21 to 25 miles per hour over the speed limit—$200
*Speeding 26 or more miles per hour over the speed limit—the individual must appear in court by paying a minimum of $350 in New Hampshire traffic fines.
*Reckless Driving—$500 first offense; $750-$1000 second offense.

So now I'm a racist, and a profiler? I have to kindly object to these allegations. You probably think "we" (as in, us cops) just sit back...and see all the blacks and hispanics through their 3% limo tint and say to ourselves...yep, they have gotta be guilty of something. Thats what you think yes?
