Just got pulled over for going 72 in a 55 in Lauren, GA. How does this system work? I know I can just pay to get out of the court date, but how much am I looking at? Also, can I get out of the points?

It should all be written on your citation. The amount if you go to court and the points, the amount if you pay and the points. If you pay it usually drops it by 2 points. he back of the citation will tell you when and where to send the payment, and the front tells you the address of the court to show up in.

it all depends on what the cop wrote on your ticket. i got hit for 79, in a 55 once. b/c i was so complient with him, he let me off by not arresting me, and i just had to pay the ticket within the month (came out to like 300 and some)

best bet is going to be to call the court, or call the department that issued the ticket

how you can handle it, and points/fine amount vary from state to state

i got a ticket for 67 in a 50 and it was $230. it was like a regular ticket, the cop didnt hassle me at all about anything, i just paid the 230 and did the online traffic school for an additional 50 bucks and that was it, it didnt go on my record nor did my insurance increase since i did the traffic school. it was also my first ticket after the 18 month period so thats why nothing changed for me

well i dont know about other states, but in wv they consider 15mph over the speed limit reckless driving and can be somewhere around 5-600 bucks and like 6 points on your license

I hear a lot of people say that about a lot of states, but i'd BET that in the case of reckless...that he'd have been written for reckless and not speeding...i'm pretty sure thats usually a completely separate charge

In CA it is 10 bucks for every mph over the limit plus standard fees. When you show up in court they usually reduce it. Sorry I don't have info for you specific state.

Well thanks for the estimates guys, I'll just keep a few hundred stashed aside and call in 14 days to see what the damage is. Lesson learned when speeding on backroads :frusty:

May I suggest a "radar Detector"=If nothing else--it keeps you aware of your speed.
Not suggesting to speed--they keep you more aware while traveling longer distances.
Don't get a cheapie--too many false alarms. Do your research--I have a "BEL"
PAYS FOR ITSELF many times over. There have been good buys on ebay in the past, if you did not want to get a new one.

I used to have one years ago, but I really don't speed that much anymore. This was more of a "not-paying-attention" citation, as I didn't see the cop following me since I was GPS'ing. Also, it was one of those classic speed trap scenarios where he hit my truck with the radar as soon as I passed a reduced speed limit sign. Last day of the month, in a county with nicer cop cars than any I've seen...I understand what they're doing. Not even really mad as long as I get out for only a few hundred.

Lesson learned about driving backroads though
