Some cops are buttheads. Most are good people. My worst experience was with an OHP (Oklahoma Highway Patrol). Officer said he saw me fly right through a toll booth. I very politely said, I didnt, I stopped put the exact change in, it didnt go off, so I put even more change in, still didnt go off, so I went. He called me a liar, said he saw me with his own two eyes. I said, No sir, I didnt. He said he could go and check and see exactly how much I put in. I said, "please do." He came back and said "it turns out you did stop, but you only put in 12 cents, Why did you lie to me!?" and wrote me a ticket for it.

Thankfully I did happen to record that conversation. Lets just say OHP was happy to work with me when I played that one. lol. I am a youth pastor, and this day in age I ALWAYS carry a recorder with me. Sadly......

Just for the record, I don't record every traffic stop. For some reason I did on that.

Yeah, some cops are. And some priests... well, forget it.

I'll give you a bit of insight. Imagine watching cars drive by all day. Many of them the same... some of them almost identical. And you're doing this because some bullshit survey says that too many cars got rear ended in toll booths last year. So now you need to make sure people slow down and pay and blah blah, whatever. Maybe the guy honestly was wrong, but was damn certain the silver pickup he saw speed through was yours.

Here's an example from a few months ago. I was patrolling an area near the George Washington Bridge. A 1970s Pontiac Thunderbird in baby blue went flying down the roadway and then yanked a quick turn. This particular road has a lot of cyclists on it. By the time I turned around to go after it, I had lost sight of it for a few seconds. At that moment, I saw a 1970s Pontiac Thunderbird in baby blue turn from another street and drive right in the oncoming lane me, passing me on my drive side. I turn around again and pull the kid over. During the stop, I explain to him that I was stopping him for his speed while going south bound. He swore up and down it wasn't him and that he would never drive his father's car like that. A likely story...

Needless to say, I didn't believe him.

While sitting there, running his license, a 1970s Pontiac Thunderbird in baby blue passed me on the traffic stop. I stopped what I was doing. The kid leans out his window yelling and pointing at the other Thunderbird.

Needless to say, I then believed him.

I wasn't going to write him a ticket anyway, just warn him. But I couldn't get over the fact that two of these extremely unusual vehicles would just coincidentally be traveling in the same area. Upon walking back to his car I said "I honestly don't know what the hell the odds are of two nearly identical 1970s Pontiac Firebirds driving around here." to which he replied "I'm just glad the bastard drove by and you saw him!!"

    Shit happens.
