2008 Tacoma, My truck sat for a couple months of working on it, once i was done i tried starting it and got the dead battery and relays clicking sound. After i put the battery on a tender overnight, the truck started and ran fine except the speedometer and odometer quick working. My radio also quit. I have checked wiring and fuses, and i am thinking the under voltage took out something. Check engine light is on, and i plan on getting the code read this week. Looking at many forums, i have seen people leading towards changing the gauge cluster, and other change the speed sensors on the transmission. I was just curious if anyone else came across this situation after a dead battery. End result is i i will be replacing something lol

So what kind of work did you do to the truck the last couple months? If the gauges were working properly before it’s likely something you may have done. How do the battery terminals look?

Battery terminals are fine, no fuzz or corrosion, I have removed the gas tank and truck bed to repair broken rear brake lines. That turned into restoring the entire rear end of the truck with KBS coatings, and new stainless steal brake lines, and struts. I also installed new rocker panels. I made sure to disconnect the battery during any welding activity. My ABS has never worked right, so I disconnected the rear two sensors to clean up the look.

    ^yeah, what he said.

A TW member posted somewhere that the speedometer gets it's reading from the right rear wheel sensor. Don't know if that's true, but if so, that would explain your situation.

I'll try hooking up the rear ABS harness and see if that works again, to me it seems to operate a whole different system, but computers do strange things when collecting data and from where

I ripped out the wire to the sensor going through a creek crossing and it cut the Speedo and odometer. That’s your problem- plug them back in.

Not to kick up a dead thread, but one issue I've noticed on my 05 DCLB is very rarely, maybe once a year, my speedometer simply quits working, just the speedo and nothing else. I've noticed this in the extreme cold (minus zero), warm temps (95+) or simply average weather. I go through the normal checks, looking at any other gauge cluster not working, and checking the fuses for anything blown, and I always turn up empty handed. Luckily enough *knocking on wood* the issue remedies itself after letting it sit for a few hours.

Just shooting this out there to see if anyone has ever experienced this issue and knows what the potential culprit might be.
