Has anyone used the inline speedometer from either Rough Country or Hypertech? I’m being told that the speedo doesn’t gather information from the gears and to just leave that blank when downloading the software. Only the info for the specific tire size is required. Any thoughts?

The devices work fine. When using the software you must be online. Put your tire sizes in and then adjust the new size by tenths of an inch until you find perfection. Install unit leaving the cable connected so changes can be made easily. Leave the cable connected so your next tire size can be easily adjusted too. I siliconed my cable to the box.

I only pay attention to the final ratio shown in the software. The software is lacking in that you can’t change the ratio directly.

Awesome. I plan to install a very long USB so I can mess with it without disassembling the dash. Thank you!

that RC programmer works great, fairly simple too and great results weve seen across multiple platforms.

Speedometers arent gear driven, you have ABS/Wheel Speed Sensors at the hubs that measure the wheel turns so changing gears wont affect this

Correct that gears don't affect it, because the speedo is driven solely off of the wheel speed and a programmed stock tire size. The calibrators work fine, however mine made my truck do a weird thing where the first unlock sequence after a while would still beep but the turn signals would not flash. It didn't seem to affect anything else, so I'm sure it was not a problem, but it made me a bit nervous.

Hypertech and RC are the same device in different color casings. They use the same software from HyperTech. I tried both and they both functioned identically, so I'd probably do the RC again if I were to run one.

That’s the one I went with.

I’ll report back with any issues but thanks for the info!

Interesting topic. I assume this is a must if changing tire size, but the Speedo on my 2023 Tacoma with about 5,500 miles is a few MPH off.

Does this also affect the odometer?

Good way to improve your gas mileage.:D

The stock speedo on many vehicles, including the Tacoma, reads fast by about 3%. Meanwhile, the odometer is correct. They both get their info from the same speed data coming from the wheel sensors. If you were to step the tires up by 1", the speedo would then read correct but the odometer would then be slow by the same 3%. If you were to install 33's, your speedo would then be slow by 3%, and the odometer would be shorting itself by around 6%.

I believe so. Someone smarter than me will expand on that, but I think because the rotations are accurate it could mean that you are putting LESS*** miles than what you actually are with the bigger tires.

This. Disregard what I mentioned above.

    Believe so.

Even with these new vehicles it is still required that the "legal" distance traveled is contained within the speedometer cluster.

With that said I have noticed the speed Toyota's Techstream and my Ultra Gauge display is not corrected by the speedometer correctors.
