    Hey all,

I’ve got a 2002 PreRunner with a V6 and some Goodyear wranglers on it 265/75/R16. gearing is 4.56. I cannot find the correct speedometer drive gear for the life of me, could someone link me or tell me what part number I need? My research has led me to think I need a 33 tooth drive gear to correct the speedo but I cannot find one that says it fits the PreRunner with the 5VZ anywhere!
    Help is appreciated,
    Thanks

Part numbers are all the same (there's only one 33-tooth gear), and are all listed here: Speedometers, Odometers, and Gas Mileage – All Lies!, and then, how to change it (which is super easy/obvious): Replacing the Speedo Gear.

That said, it's way more tweakable/configurable to use an electronic calibration device, than the speedo gear (plus, it works with any tire/gear ratio setup: Lutzauto speed sensor calibrator)

Also, this post is highly worth reading - turns out that on our trucks, you can't have the ODO and speedo be accurate at the same time; you have to choose. I chose the ODO: LutzAuto Speedo Correction Device Issues

thanks! I looked into it. Looks like I’m going with the lutzauto option. That article about the speedo & Odo was really interesting. I wonder why u couldn’t, in theory, just buy 2 correction devices and correct both. Maybe I missed it though.

They're both driven by that same signal from the speedo gear. That signal goes to the ECU, which then does some "ECU-math-magic" and sends two signals - one to the speedo and one to the ODO. So, you'd need something between the ECU and gauge cluster, rather than between the t-case speedo gear and ECU, which is where the Lutzauto sits.

We all have this same issue when we're swapping for different speedo gears too, we just never realized it. Or at least, only people smarter than me realized it, and then never told me.

The auto is easier to (trick) deal with because of the many different vehicles its installed in so I am assuming your talking about the manual ?.
