My speedometer works sometimes and sometimes not. When it does work it may or may not be accurate - not by a little but a lot. I'll be doing 70 and it reads 50, or 90 mph. Usually it reads high, so at 70mph it shows 90 mph or 80 or 85. It changes during the drive too, so may start accurate then get more off the longer the drive. Sometimes it just sets at 0 no matter how fast I'm going. This usually happens after I've run it for awhile, then turned it off for a short time, then turn it on again. And sometimes it says I'm doing 15mph when I'm doing 20mph (I know cause the school crossing guard yelled at me to slow down and several drive-by's later we figured it out).

    any help? thanks,

:) Maybe this can help you with your problem. You have two major components, a Speed sensor on the transmission on your drivers side of the transmission. Here is a link to removing the sensor The other component is the speedometer head, and you would remove it from the dash. Most times the failure of the speed sensor is the problem. It does not look to be a hard item to replace, but I do not how much the part is. Rock Auto shows the part costs 50 dollars, I am sure the dealer part is twice that amount or more. I hope this helps you. Good Luck.

    Is your abs light on?
I had the same problem with my last truck ***(which wasn't a toyota though)***and the faulty speed sensor threw an abs code...?
The speed sensor was super easy to change...(just like the link up thread)...one bolt and voila! problem fixed.
