Just read the safety notice on the door panel, can definitely tell they don't make this one in the USA haha.

 

Forgot I took some engine pics too, I was surprised to see it went to the dealer for all service up until 2014. Even has a Toyota battery in there haha.

 

I find myself doing the same, haha the last couple of days fixing minor stuff like the diff lockers (1st owner never even put it into 4low so all of the switches were gummed up). I've just been admiring the workmanship and planning that went into making the drivetrain and interior components.

 

That's awesome, Zane! Super cool that you came across this after your Taco rolled.

I really want that exact Cruiser one of these days. Do some mild, well thought out mods, and you have a badass family ready camping setup. Only thing better would be a trailer with another RTT for the kids and all their shit! And I'd still have the Taco for solo missions or for just me and my lady.

I can dream, right?!

 

The hard part will be keeping it mild, luckily my wallet and the need for a Taco body will be able to keep me in check for a little bit haha. Now I just need the family, life goals. Understandably my immediate family (parents, grandparents) want to avoid leaving pavement with me after the Taco.

I zoomed in on your speedo. Looks like 178k. Since you're new to the 80, I'd see if you can find a good mechanic near you with 80 experience that could give it the once-over. You'll find that there is a whole new maintenance regime to these things. Below is a place to start.

It's been checked by a couple mechanics, all the way down to the compression. I did all of the O2 sensors with Toyota OEM o2s and all fluids have been changed save for the ATF which looked, smelled, and tasted perfect. I do my own automotive work provided it's something I have the tooling for, but I'll keep the list in mind just in case. I suppose TorFab is close enough I could have them look at it, but with the way it runs and the recent preventative stuff I've done I'm not sure I want to waste their time. I know I need to find time to rebuild the front axle and put new brakes on but that should be about it. She runs sweet. Also 173K mi

 

PHH I think it's called. Heater hose for the rear heat. It's under the passenger side. Often missed. Really ruin your day.

Changed the oil yet? 8 quarts!

 

Bought hose for doing the PHH, and new easier to affix clamps to hopefully help the situation. Oil was changed with 8 quarts of Kendall 5W-30

 

Wow! Super clean under the hood. Even has hood struts too.

 

We'll have to go for a ride when I'm back after the 23rd. I was shocked the struts still worked after 24 years.
