Tested the stock flex today with sway bars on and everything haha. Really impressed with rear flex and not disappointed by the front either. Couldn't get a wheel off the ground so testing and playing with lockers didn't really happen.

It felt weird driving so reserved. I was being way more careful with it than I ever was with the Taco. Can't wait to have that back up and running so I can thrash it again.

I'm really partial to the WholeHog subwoofer bracket, but I've seen a few others out there. Since I'm not a real audiophile, I don't know all the ins/outs of the subs, but most need an enclosure and can't really be installed in an open area. I thought the back panel would be an "enclosure", but I was deemed a fool for stating such things. So, I have a "box" made around the bracket and enclosed in dynomat. I can see a little of it by opening the cover in the back panel on the passenger side. All I know is that it sounds good to me.

 

I am still planning amps and subs. That mount looks interesting if only for the amp bracket portion. I don't know of any infinite baffle (free air) subwoofers and I'd imagine running it that way would be lack luster any way. But maybe there is enough room to fit a box with proper volume bolted to the bracket as well? I am pretty picky with how things sound.

 

My amp went under the driver's seat in both. Bracket is basis of the box.

 

Did some troubleshooting on the rear diff locker today since it is still not working. I'm getting zero noise from it when commanded to actuate, so I used my PowerProbe to manually apply power and ground to the pins on the locker harness. When trying to engage the voltage drop across the pins went down to 8v from a resting voltage of 12.4 so I think the motor is actually trying to function correctly and that the mechanism is frozen. So sometime soon I'll get it off the truck and see what the damage is. My hope is that I can make any broken parts and free up what's stuck because the rear locker is $746 if I want a new one.

It's a mess, haha moving is a massive pain. But at least most of my stuff is in the trailer instead of the house. Mostly cleaning and little stuff now.

Thursday, tomorrow is last little bits of loading up and cleaning. Good news is I got the call from Home Depot, I'm back on the schedule and the cruiser tows this barge like it isn't there.

 

Good news on the job. Income!

 

Took mine to CO. Put the GoPro on the roof.

 

Got some goodies on the way for the cruiser since the Taco is still in recovery.

Late to this thread but congrats on the 80! My first 80 was a '93. I love the dash on the '91-'93s better than the later ones. Weird I know but it's sometimes the little things that satisfy.

This double din Pioneer touchscreen DVD deck that I have in my current 80 has been great, if you're still looking. I have it paired with a drop down DVD player for the rear passengers.

 

One other thing about these trucks that not many know regarding the sway bars. Toyota came up with a pretty cool design on these. For simplicities sake the sway bars are shaped kinda like a "U" with a few bends in the section that parallels the axle. The forward "arms" of the sway bars, the closer they are to parallel the more swaybar resistance you'll have. This will give you the on-road (or-off) stability in corners etc. But those bends in the sway bar not only are to clear the diffs etc, but they also change the dynamics of the swaybar. The farther away from parallel that the "arms" are the less resistance the sway bar provides. This means that the sway bar will not limit flex in the same way it does on a lot of other vehicles. So there is really no reason at all to remove the sway bars on these trucks.

If you lift it, just get the right swaybar link extensions to work with the lift and you'll be good. The limiter of flex will either be the shocks or the front radius arms binding against the axle brackets when they twist.
