You can’t remove it from the outside without destroying it.

Look at the pics @Ronzio posted above. You have to pry the lens off, then drill out holes where the nuts attach from the inside.

That's sun damage all the way, but that should not be happening. By seeing that, that tells me that Toyota is using super cheap plastic materials because lighting lenses should not crack like that. Even if it has been sitting in the sun.

If this wasn't under warranty I would definitely look into doing something like this, although it would be a fight with my wife. She doesn't seem to like the look of these aftermarket lights.

This is what I thought. I have never had a vehicle that has had this happen and I have always been forced to park in the sun. When the new one goes in I will start using UV protectant on all of the lenses.

Terrible design, you should be able to remove from outside just like the Tundra and previous Gens.

I definitely agree with your there. When they told me 6 hours to replace I thought they were just jerking me around, which honestly I think they are padding the time quite a bit, but still pulling the headliner to access this is horrible design.

I hear you. Use the warranty.
I use holidays to get all my expensive mods. Christmas, birthday, father’s day, etc.
When the wife and kids ask “what do you want?”, their next statement is usually “I’m sure it’s something for your truck!”

Time for an update. I got the 3rd brake light replaced yesterday along with my 15,000 mile service. I was there for 6.5 hours. I was feeling around the headliner to see if it had any loose spots and it seemed in there pretty good and the light looks good. They did get grease on the headliner, which I specifically asked them to be careful about since they got grease on my seat at my oil change. The service advisor was good about coming out and getting it all cleaned up, but it was still frustrating since I specifically asked them to be careful about that.

I am going to apply some aerospace 303 to the cover and hopefully I won't have the problem again.
