First feeding with my female Goliath Bird-Eater after her molt. I'd guess she gained 1" in legspan ... and just look at those sexy hairy legs. :anonymous:

Yeah but hard to tell. She grabbed the roach when I darted into her little wood cave.

So a question. Smaller spiders seem to inject venom and wrap up prey in web for later consumption.
Do tarantulas in particular consume their prey immediately?
And they all have venom, correct?

Yes all spiders have venom. I've never seen one of my tarantulas kill a prey item then not immediately start to eat it. If the tarantula doesn't want to eat then it won't go after the insect. Web-spinning spiders will kill insects caught in their web and not immediately eat it because a struggling insect can damage the web ... and ain't nobody got time for that. :D

Do you handle your tarantulas and are any of their venom bad for to humans?
I am aware humans being larger their venom may not liquefy me, maybe just at the bite site??
    Dem fangs are huge!!

Lol yeah getting bitten by a tarantula is going to hurt because the fangs are big, but the venom is not medically significant unless you are allergic ... like when people die from bee stings. That being said, bites from Old World tarantulas (Africa, Asia) can be quite painful for days or weeks after being bitten.

I don't handle mine. Not worth the risk of getting bitten or harming the spider if it falls.

Yes they can jump (not very far) which is why handling them isn't a good idea.

    Could have been worse:

What spider gives you a hard on?
The Brazilian wandering spider is part of the genus Phoneutria, which is — fittingly — Greek for murderess. The spider's bite can cause painful erections that last approximately four hours, and can lead to impotence if it doesn't kill you first.Mar 12, 2015

Certain species can be more calm as a whole, but individual tarantulas have personalities that could be vastly different from what most of their species adheres to. :D
