My 07's airbag light on the dash is always on. It's showing DTC B1801, and I'm pretty sure that I need to replace the spiral cable.

My horn and cruise control work just fine though.

Is there something else that I should look at before ordering a $200 part, installing it, and then finding out the problem is still there:confused:

    Thanks,

    Johnny

I found out today that the spiral cable is covered under warranty 5years /100000k only if the drivers air-bag warning light is on...you need to read the small print in the warranty Toyota is covering all my cost to repair.

My dealer replaced my spiral cable today under warranty on my 09Tacoma Sport SR5. I see no difference in the airbag light display. It was dim before the cable was replaced, still dim. Dealer states they cleared the codes. How do i know if everything is working correctly? Twice before they checked the codes, cleared them & said everything was fine. Prior to this the passenger light would come on intermittently.

Can you send me a link or something? I'm just under 100k miles and Toyota has been telling me that it was only covered up to 60k...or something like that.

Ok, so maybe i didn't have a issue after all. You are saying the airbag is off. How do i turn it on? I looked in owners manual, it refers to the access cab. I have a dbl cab SR5 Sport Pkg.
    Thanks,
    Tom

I don't have a link to the spiral cable warranty this is the email I got from Toyota

Please be advised our records indicate that as of today'sdate, there are no outstanding campaigns on your 2006 Tacoma.

The air bag system is covered under the Safety RestraintSystems warranty. This warranty covers repairs needed on any seatbelt or airbag system supplied by Toyota that is defective in material or workmanship, subject to the exceptions indicated under "What is Not Covered" onpages 12 & 13. Coverage is for a period of 60 months or 100,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.

We suggest contacting your Toyota dealership as theywould be responsible for determining whether your vehicle would be coveredunder the Safety Restraint Systems warranty, and we fully support theirdecision.

Thank you again for taking the time to write.

    Sincerely,

    Customer Interaction Centre

    Toyota Canada Inc.

When I went to the dealership they tried the 60k on me then i told them I had this email. they had to check into it and called me back at the service agent read the warranty too me. the spiral cable is only covered to 60k then said in smal print if the airbag warning light is on then it is covered 5/100k. if the light is on then it is airbag they can not argue that it won't stand up in court.

    I have a 2006 Tacoma DC with 61000 miles.

This past weekend, my airbag light came on. A friend checked the code and found B1801. I took it to Toyota of Vineland and they told me that it wasnt covered under warranty. I left it so that it could be fixed.

I contacted the Toyota corporate office and explained my problem. I asked if my SRS was covered under the 5 year 60000 mile warranty and was told that it was. The rep explained that I had 61000 miles and that would put me out of warranty. I told her that I understood.

A couple of hours later, Toyota of Vineland called me back and told me that I needed a spiral cable and that they could have my truck done this afternoon. I explained that the SRS was covered under the 5 year, 60000 mile warranty. I was reminded that I was 1000 mile over.

After speaking with Yvonne (service advisor) of Toyota of Vineland, she made a few phone calls on my behalf.

Yvonne called me back after about 30 minutes to tell me that my spiral cable would be replaced at NO CHARGE.

I have to thank all of you for the information that I used in helping to persuade Toyota to see my point.

I has to remind the Toyota rep at the corporate office that the Canadian warranty is 5 year or 100,000 kms. I explained that 100,00kms is approximately 62000 miles and that I was only at 61000 miles.

I have to thank Yvonne of Toyota of Vineland for going to bat for me and getting my problem fixed at no charge.
