I have a 2014 Nav unit on the way that I plan to put in my 2012. I undertsnad that I am going to need a VIN number from a vehicle thats got entune. Will ANY vehicle with Entune do? Does it HAVE to be a Tacoma? I pulled up the local toyota dealership website and the first ride I looked at was a 2014 4 Runner listing for like 48k...... I thought that ones GOT to have entune, and it did. I copied the VIN right off the site and used it to make me an Entune Acct. What kind of problems will this present later? Any? I am under the impression that as long as I have the Entune app running on my phone then its gonna connect to the radio and I will be able to get updates and run apps.

Yall tell me if im on the right track or if I need to go back to square 1.

It doesn't have to be a Tacome. I used a VIN from a Tundra. You go to Toyota's website and create an Entune acct. Register that VIN to the acct. now you download the app to your phone, and sign into your account on the phone app. Now you pair your phone to the radio.

Buy a 2014 HU that has Entune. Pull your radio out, and put the new one in. You can't add it via software.

Navigation is its only use if you ask me. Lots of HU's out there can do navigation now and cost about the same as Entune does. Plus, more features, better sound quality, etc.

Just depends on the person. My dad LOVES Entune, makes him feel like he is living in the tech world and does what he needs it to do. He doesn't care about audio quality at all so for him its perfect.

Yeah im in the same boat as your dad..... Im no "audio phile" and dont really want to drop 1000 plus on an aftermarket in dash Nav. Found an opportunity to pick up a 2014 Toyota Nav unit for 450 bucks so I jumped on it. By the way that TW member is still selling those units also if you wanna get one for yourself.

Not my cup of tea. I'm an audiophile big time. If I had the scratch I'd have at least 10k into my stereo. I'm about $3500 currently and am not happy with it.

I'm finding as I get older and my tastes change, as well as my willingness to compromise on certain things change, things like a more modern source unit with OEM level of integration, fit, finish and ease of use become more appealing. The term audiophile has to be taken with a grain of salt and is only relative to whatever your reference is :D
Aftermarket signal processing is so advanced at this point that the factory source can anchor a reference quality sound system with nearly zero perceptible difference from an "audiophile" headunit - provided the right processors are added downstream. I'm personally considering doing a retrofit myself as I build my system simply because the flashy nature of the newer source units just don't appeal to me anymore. Different strokes for different folks makes the world go round ;)

Couldnt agree with you more. I prefer the "clean" fit and finish of factory equipment and the look and feel of aftermarket head units seem too high tech for my taste. I will agree, I was looking at maybe getting a Kenwood Excellon DVD/Nav unit just for the in dash NAV...... and I really liked a lot of features it had. I just couldnt justify spending over 1300 bucks for a radio that I wouldnt even use most of the features. Yeah sometimes on rare occasions my current radio leaves me wanting just a tad bit more "oomph" in it, but for the most part, it does just fine cause 90% of my radio listening is done on XM political talk radio.

I ordered mine with Entune Premium JBL with Nav. It is well worth it. It was put in nice and neat by the factory. It really sounds great!

My understanding is that a VIN can be registered 5 times. So I don't think it will be an issue. I know why Toyota does it (licensing for Gracenote, and some other features). It's annoying for us since the radios we are buying used are removed from vehicles, so license count wise it's the same. Make sense? I'm curious if there is a process for them to add Entune to a VIN record. Not sure how the dealership deals with someone saying "Hey, I want to buy an Entune radio and install it".

I just ran into this problem . I purchased a oem entune with nav and app suite and found my vin would not work . so I called entune support and asked them to add my vin so I could register . I was told it cannot be done and it had to be done at the factory when the truck was being built .WTF So I did what everyone else is doing and its now working great. he did say they have been getting allot of complaints about this issue and may possibly be working on a solution but would not say for sure. He said only option for me is to get the vin from the truck the radio came out of

This type of feedback is great. I'm looking into retro fitting this into my system as well. I just prefer the OEM fit and finish and with a quality LOC system performance should be acceptable as well. Keep it coming
