Is the rear camera constantly supplying a video signal?

I'm interested in tapping that feed and sending a copy of the signal to my dash cam's 2nd channel for DVR purposes. Has anyone tried anything like this?

Have you done any more on this subject?
Your post didn't get a lot of love on this site. I had the same idea. Waiting to purchase a Dash Cam to see if it takes a special one. I'll go looking on some other sites. If I find anything, I'll let you know.

Interesting link, although that’s actually the opposite of what I wanted to do. Back when I wrote this post I had a dashcam that was front-facing only but also had a composite input for an optional rear cam. So I thought why not use the video coming from my tailgate? I even bought a compact video spliter / signal booster and was going to try it.

Unfortunately that vehicle was totaled during Hurricane Harvey and the dash cam went with it. When I got a replacement vehicle I ended up getting a new dashcam that has both front and rear cams. So I don’t really have a need to pursue this anymore. But I’d be super curious to know if anyone ever did it.
