My '19 Sport has 15,000 miles on it and I average 22-23 mpg. If I take it easy on the peddle I get 25 all day. Alot of mpg is driving style. I'm no grandma, but I don't race between stop lights either.

I’ve owned sport, trd or, multiple Tacomas. Who gives a f****ck what anyone else thinks. It says Toyota. It has 4wd. It’s capable AF. If you like it, that’s all that matters.

It can be a great commuter if you live where this is common weather lol. I average 18-22mpg and drive my truck hard. That is with a lift and topper too.

A much better commuter in that climate would be a Subaru.

I used to plow streets in my lowered 05 WRX Wagon w/Blizzacks. 2+ feet of snow wouldn’t stop that thing.

We taco owners like to poo-poo the ridge line but I just took a trip with a friend and he got 26 mpg going over the cascades in Oregon. Best I’ve done in my taco is 21 mpg and that’s not mountain driving.

All depends on what you need from a vehicle. I had a subbie with winter tires and that thing was a rocket in the winter. Unfortunately, we got creamed on the highway buy some clown going way too fast on the ice and it got written off. It did its job and saved me and my young boys.

Mpgs are also dependent on location. I’ve noticed in the mountains I get better mpg than I do in the valley

I'm with the others urging you not to buy a Tacoma as a commuter, as I commute in mine daily and have already racked up 86k.
I chose the Sport because it kicks the crap out of the TRD Off-Road in the looks department, for a few thousand dollars less. I upgraded the suspension and tires, and while having ATRAC would be cool, I could take or leave the rear diff locker. My truck can hang on any trails I'd be interested in taking it on.

I have friends that have them, and they love them. But my girl hates Honda so I’d be on the couch forever if I ever bought one.

    We doing MPG again?

I'm a bit of an engineer, what can I say. :notsure:

This is with (over time adding) sliders, skids, front and rear steel bumpers, and a roof rack. No significant change in mileage. Bigger wheels are what saps your emm pee gees.

As far as the "commuter", meh. To each their own. If you have a truck need, it's cheaper to send it in the truck (usually) than it is to buy an econobox for the commutes.

why would you want a tacoma and NOT use it as your commuter? what is the point of buying a second car to drive instead of the tacoma?

I can't hate. If you don't need to tow and you're never going to take it on more than a snowy road, it's fine. The original one had the funky looks, it's too bad they kinda softened it to look like the Pilot. I love my Tacoma even though it gets on average 19 mpg and I daily it, but it's miles cooler than a Ridgeline, and it can handle the few times I've towed with it and it can crawl up shit that a Ridgeline couldn't.

Gas prices are brutal, more so in certain parts of the country than others. Same goes for insurance. A lot of people have to consider tight parking. People have their reasons.

There's no way the gas you save off sets the cost of a second car, upkeep, registration, and insurance.

People have different priorities too. Small cars are easier to drive, and less wear and tear that comes with miles on the Tacoma helps with resale value.

Not mine or yours obviously, I daily mine and even though I take care of it, it still has 86k.

I get that. I had an old Nissan hardbody barebones truck. I was a great beater. So fun to drive. But it got the point where it wasn't worth the few thousand a year it costed to keep it.
