The best thing it does is cancels AI and flex lock.
Cruise at higher rpm for non interstate driving.
S3 cancels all lockup in the converter, btw.

Most do this. I know my jetta from factory did this. as soon as you hit the limiter and keep giving it throttle it will auto shift to the next gear for you to save the engine from red lining.

Tuning got rid of it, but that was part of the launch control so that I can have it bounce off the limiter till I get traction when drag racing.

I'm just curious would this still stop it from upshifting if you were say coasting down a hill trying to basically have the truck use engine braking.

I seldomly do this in my diesel rig, when I'm hauling a heavy load. It will hold it in whatever gear you have it set(as long as that gear is within rpm range) BUT I would not do this with my Tacoma, because it's not designed for this kind of stress.

ya but I'm thinking not for towing but when going down a kill off road.
Basically like when in a manual rig you have it in 4lo and 2nd gear.

Or is there a low gear option as well as S? I never paid close attention to it when I test drove.

Also nice shepherd in your avatar

it will limit the highest gear the tranny will shift into depending what gear you have it in. yes shifts the same as in D but you can manually shift 1 thru 6. if you are looking for the tranny not to shift early when in D, thats what ECT does.

Oookay, I follow ya. Well I would think it would work, in theory, but I still think it would be too much wear and tear in the engine. Plus you wouldn't have as much control as using your brakes. Braking at slow speeds(crawling), doesn't wear out your brakes very much, anyways.

And thanks! Her name is Sam

Edit: And I haven't tried using (S) while I was in 4lo, yet

Brakes are cheaper than an engine.

ya but by braking you risk locking up if the hill is muddy and then you could end up losing control.
I'm not sure I've never gone wheeling in an automatic. always went in my uncles and friends jeeps or older first gen taco. all of which were manual and always just used second gear 4lo when going down hills. Sometimes even 1st. Helped keep the rig from accelerating too much.

Who knows maybe with all the new traction control aids of newer vehicles its not a problem. All these rigs I've been in were older so dind;t have much

The technology in these newer vehicles, can basically drive itself. And I'm referring to the 'crawl control' on the trd off-road models, (anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)once activated, it will use the abs system and control each wheel separately, and basically eliminate the chances of the truck "locking up", while going downhill

Unless all the wheels lock up and the system thinks the truck is stopped.

ya but that also takes away from the fun of wheeling to me.
part of the fun to me is finding a challenge and working through it.

Agreed. I've played around with the crawl control, just to test it out. It's a neat feature, but I think it's intended for those that don't have the experience, yet.

In this case, you'd better start pumping those brakes and hang on lol... But from What I've learned by messing with the crawl control, that shouldn't happen, 'cause if you were to be on level ground and let off the pedals, the system will think you're trying to go uphill and give it gas, and if it goes faster than the set speed on the overhead controls, it will engage the brakes. So I would assume (if the system is functioning properly) that in that scenario, it would disengage and re-engage the brakes, trying to regain control:notsure:

1000 off-road miles. Used CC for about 2 seconds. Completely worthless.

It looks pretty handy if you ever run into any piles of sand, in the mall parking lot:rolleyes:

shit takes too long, I'd get out and throw down maxxtrax or treds faster haha.
It is cool I'll give them that, but it just helps market to the midlife crisis men that want to think they can get this and go tackle hard shit.

The MTS sounds pretty good to me though in certain places. The rocks setting seems like it would help and I was checking on another website for FJ, the sand and mud setting supposedly works really great in snow. My cousin has the FJ and he said he's only used MTS in the snow and it actually really helps. We live on the same street and we're usually one of the last ones to get plowed, said it really helps him get off our street. Its a horse shoe shaped block and once you start going around the curve its a slope. All the way around to my side of the block. He says it really helps for getting out. I know when we get a lot of snow I just stay home lol.

I haven't had much time to try the MTS on any technical stuff yet, but it'll be interesting to see the effects. And snow is a rare thing, here in central Texas lol I'll have to do some traveling if I want to try that out
