Personally, and confidentially, I want to slap a WRX STi scooooop on my hood, and a turbo and intercooler under my hood, and a downpipe and a catback behind my motor, and an open pipe behind my catback, and a chrome diesel thru-tip on my end of my open pipe.
Me can dream, can't we? We can dream... YES ME CAN. :annoyed:

When offroading anything on the hood impacts your vision. It may only be an inch on the hood, but when cresting a hill, it will block feet of your field of view. It does obstruct your view. The stock OR, limited, SR and SR5 hood is bad enough. No need to add to it. If you don't offroad I can see how people would think it's a silly complaint, but it is a legit deal when wheeling. It does look good on the outside, but the fact it is non functional and I personally did not like the view from in the cab with it, kills it for me.

If I could get the cowl view of an '88 Accord, and the functional scoop of a JDM Forester, i'd be singing a different tune...

But could you get the wangle for your dangle?

I hear you. I remember first ride in my brother's 1988 Civic wagon... "holy shit, where's the hood?" That's the view you want, not the flat expanse of sheet metal we have nowadays. 1st gens are a little better, but you are sitting flat on the floorboards, so it's still alot of hood between your eyes and the dirt.

Fake hood scoops are such a turn off. Yet another reason why the OR is a better model. You get more for your money, and without the flashy fake trinkets on the sport.

Wondering how much I should pay to have some one take my sport away, you know with how great the resale of the OR is, my sport must depreciate like a Ford. :poking:

Shows I don't need a penis extension like a corvette, hellcat, Shelby Cobra or 911. I get enough thrills in my life outside the car or truck to satisfy my masculinity.

Threads like this crack me up...

    In my early 20's, I had a 1985 SR5, then a 1990 SR5. Open diffs, minimal lift, no limited-slip/traction control/crawl control.
Those two trucks took me over some of the craziest back-country off roading you can imagine in the Colorado mountains. Rarely got stuck, but often spent time recovering friends from getting themselves stuck.
If you know how to pick your path on the trail and drive smart, you'd be amazed at what these trucks can do without any locker or other BS.
Which is why when I picked out my 2017 I didn't spend even a minute worrying about the rear locker or crawl-control, because I (and I'd imagine the vast majority of those arguing on this thread) really don't need them, and the lack of them won't for even a second hold me back from driving my truck wherever I feel the need to go.
So I drove both and went with the one I liked better, and have no regrets. I preferred the ride of the OR, but the look of the Sport so I bought the Sport and swapped in OR shocks.

Drive the one you like, stop spending time trying to justify why your choice is better than the choice someone else made.

PS - since I've owned my Sport, I've pulled out both a lifted Wrangler, and a 2016 TRD Pro from situations their drivers should have never got into (not because my truck is more capable, but because of stupid driver choices). Neither of them turned the recovery down because of the Skewp and lack of a locker ;)

I was thinking this same thing today. Aren't even the second gens OR's comparable to 3rd gen sports off-road-wise? And most 4x4 offerings in American brands most likely don't have crawl control or rear lockers in their non-off road forms. Yet, it seems many criticize the sport as if it will choke in a little snow.... when isn't it more off road capable than many other 4x4 competition as-is?

Yes. Crawl control isn’t necessary, and ORs with a 5 speed don’t have it. A locker is rad, but it usually isn’t needed. It’s a very nice tool to have though. Like has been mentioned already in this thread, any 3rd gen 4x4 is off road ready.

If talking manual, Across all trims from SR to pro, the suspension, frame and hardware are the same, differences being shocks and locker.

so why all the sport hate? They are both still very capable off road, with one only being able to take it a little more seriously. And if you wanted to spend a little more money down the road than upfront on the OR, you can still upgrade the sport aftermarket to be just as good if not better than the OR, off road.

Its not like this is between a v6 mustang and a v8. That is when I just don't understand why people get the v6.

No sport hate from me. I just make fun of the scoop. For fun. For REAL though, it aggravates me because it limits the already limited visibility. But that’s the only true gripe I have.

Bro. You can set up any of these tacomas to be beasts. All shocks from the factory get binned. Even the pro. As far as I’m concerned. The trim doesn’t matter at all anymore, for a few reasons. Standardized suspension components and frame, for one.

I feel like this post alone trumps the sport vs off road arguments.

Because the manual has the bigger rear end like the OR?

And no crawl. So they’re all BASICALLY the same.
