That's why I hate trade ins, market can fluctuate, you could wreck it or something else. Never pin a specific value to a trade in, only a minimum value that you can part with and in a pinch, always be ready to add cash to keep your payments where you want them.

Or just work with a down payment and sell the car / trade in on your own.

Just looked at the toyota.com, sports are 1255 dollars cheaper than OR in my zip code. So you can keep that mess for that $

Never put down a deposit unless you know the details of getting it back. You should not have to speculate about a dealer screwing you out of it, you should already know the terms of how to get it back.

You are not comparing the same models, they have the same "EXACT" MSRP.

I put the deposit down because I had that sport coming in next Monday. I've since changed my mind and now they are seeing if they can locate, or just switch it to an OR that I'll need to wait for. The deposit is refundable. I meant that if they special order one for me, and then get the truck in after 2 months they might be hesitant to refund me at that point. My biggest issue is since the trade in market fluctuates, I'm hoping i'll take a minimal loss depreciation-wise

as far as an auto or man goes.. personal preference man.. get what you want not what others think you should get.

He said he found one that is 2800 more than the base manual OR DBSB. Says its leather with a sunroof. Is that the premium package?

I know dropping 35k-40k is a ton of cash, but brother you are gonna talk yourself out of owning a damn nice truck. If you want a Manual Off Road Tacoma then stick to your guns and get it, so what if you have to wait a little while.

If it is a 2017 Premium and Tech are together in the same package, on 2018 there is a Premium package and a separate Tech package.

It’s generally always better sell a vehicle on your own than trade it in to a dealership. I know trying to sell a late model year vehicle that is 3 years old or less is a PITA because the vehicle is so expensive that it’s hard to find a buyer that can pay in cash or get a loan that allows them to purchase outside of a dealer.
It’s always better to sell older cars more than 5 years old on Craigslist because you get significantly more money for it.

For me I am planning on driving my current taco into the ground so when I get ready to get a new daily driver I won’t have to deal with a trade in.

    Yep

Order what you want and be done with the search. Deal is done and you can just drive or sell the trade in while you wait. If sold or wrecked use the money recovered as the down payment when the truck get's here.

Thanks all. I'm not completely off on getting an auto. I even told myself my next truck form my current GTI will be auto as I got sick of shifting. A lot of it is also that manual is cheaper. However a big question I have is... for 2018 are the automatic shifting issues all ironed out by now?

The only way you are going to figure it out is to get one for an extended test drive. It's going to feel different to each person, they gave me an automatic to test drive for 3 days and I hated it, but that is my opinion and yours may differ.

Opted for off road, more features for the money and a more comfortable ride.

Go drive one and see. They shift when it feels the need to shift, not when you think it needs to shift. If you want it to shift when you think it should, buy a manual.
