So the question is what is better to drive. Ect on or Sport mode?
I heard that driving with Ect on help with gear hunting and makes for a better drive. Sport mode does make for a better drive to me. Can’t say notice a difference with Ect but with Sport yes. Does anybody a preference or feed back between the two?

Side note do all auto models have sport mode or just the TRD sport?

Almost all toyotas refer the stick shift to drive "sport". Paddle shift models "sport" is engaged when in drive and paddle shifting, manual is when the lever is over.

The problem with sport is you have to leave it at a higher gear and it wants to stay in gears longer, I found it extra useless in residential areas.

ECT is more balanced for commuting than sport mode, it really does make a difference and you'll notice it more as you drive the truck over time.

I liked shifting to 2nd for corners then back into drive and limiting to 5th gear on the highway.

ECT doesn't make it faster per-say because WOT is WOT, you can't tell the ECU to go any faster or the trans to shift later than WOT.

I honestly don’t notice a difference between S & Drive. Either one with ECT is a big difference. But then again I’ve driven with S mode since day one since I was used to it from my old Camry lol

I like the FTL channel but I hate the fact that fat dude is clearly biased against Tacoma with his sarcasm. I watch one with Tacoma vs Chevy Colorado and he said the Chevy had the most advanced 4x4 he’d ever seen. He always says meh about Tacoma and complains about everything about them so meh to him
But the results are what they are. Maybe a thinner driver would yield better times lol

Actual times don't matter. It's the fact that the times were the same in various modes.

Also, I think he had (still has?) a 2nd Gen Tacoma at one point.

If we are thinking about the same guy I think he drives a Tacoma, might be a 1st or 2nd gen though so maybe he just doesn’t like 3rd gens haha.

As far as ECT vs Sport. I definitely notice a difference in ECT vs regular drive. I rarely use sport unless I’m off-road. Basically, based on my use I would choose ECT over sport mode...even though I leave it in regular drive 98% of the time.

There is no Sport mode, the S mode is for limiting the gear to what you selected. If you put the lever in S4, the transmission will work as normal but will not go higher than the 4th gear, so if it need to downshift, it will.

ECT is an acronym for Electronically Controlled Transmission and the ECT PWR button is a function of the redesigned transmission. When pressed, the ECT PWR button will adjust shift points so you can reach higher RPM levels before shifting into the next gear.

Just a quick FYI. Part of the reason you notice almost no difference between "D" and "S" shifting is because "S" does NOT stand for "SPORT"

From the Quick Reference Manual Page 10 "Selecting shift ranges using "S" mods restricts the upper limit of the possible gear ranges, controls engine braking and prevents unnecessary upshifting"

In other models there is a "sport" mode from what I understand. Not in the trucks.

Ok. My accord and my girls Camry had sport mode with paddle shifters so I firgured s was sport because they shifted in a similar fashion. Well I guess it’s all in my head but in “s” without doing it myself it seems peppier prob due to shift points. In D it’s either sluggish or aggressive acceleration no in between
