    even though it seems like you have made up your mind I will though my .02 cents in. I think the SV650 would be a great bike. I have never heard anything bad about them. I was looking to get one a few years ago for my first bike but got a great deal on my Ducati Monster so I went that route.
    I would look for a naked one though, with out the fairings. Cheaper insurance plus they just look alot better if you ask me.
    And as everone has said, take your time, take the course, always wear your gear, go practice in a parking lot and don't ride with anyone who will pressure you into going faster than you want to go before you are ready.
