Holy crap man, your justifications/thoughts on a lot of these are my EXACT thoughts. Some of those I'm not considering at all but all the others are bang on!

I really need to find an Elise to drive. Did you get seat time in both an Exige and an Elise? What are the main differences that you observed? They're very very similar from what I can tell. I haven't done too much research on them yet.

Yeah, I hear ya. They cost 1/3 of what the Z06 costs and with a couple grand worth of bolt-ons will hang with a Z06 all day long!

To each his own though. When I'm 65 and greying/balding/trying to convince myself I 'still have it' I'm sure I'll want a Corvette too.

They're muscle cars, not sports cars....big difference. I'd tend to put the Corvette into the muscle car group as well. It kinda straddles that line in my opinion.

Camaros and mustangs are not sports cars.

Corvettes aren't that big. I can't really think of any good reason why they would be considered anything but a sports car.

I think they lost the musclecar thing after the c5z. Focused on handling and weight and they starting raping le mans. The c5z is only 3000lbs and the c6z is only a hundred lbs more

Just to clarify and for the record:

    The Free Dictionary:

sports carn (Engineering / Automotive Engineering) a production car designed for speed, high acceleration, and maneuverability, having a low body and usually adequate seating for only two persons

    Source: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/sports+car

    Merriam-Webster:

    Definition of Sports Car:

a low small usually 2-passenger automobile designed for quick response, easy maneuverability, and high-speed driving

    Source: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sports car

    Wiki:

A sports car (or sportscar or sport car) is a small, usually two seat, two door automobile designed for high speed driving and maneuverability.[1] Sports cars have been either spartan or luxurious, but good handling, minimum weight, and high performance are requisite.

    Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Related:

    The Free Dictionary:

cou·pé (k[IMG]-p[IMG][IMG])n.1. A closed four-wheel carriage with two seats inside and one outside.
    2. also coupe (k[IMG]p) A closed two-door automobile.

coupé [ˈkuːpeɪ]n1. (Engineering / Automotive Engineering) Also called fixed-head coupé a four-seater car with a fixed roof, a sloping back, and usually two doors Compare drophead coupé

    Source: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Sport+coupe'

    Wiki:

A coupé or coupe (from the French verb couper, to cut) is a closed car body style (permanently attached fixed roof), the precise definition of which varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, and over time. Coupés are often hardtopped sports cars or sporty variants of sedan (saloon) body styles, with doors commonly reduced from four to two, and a close-coupled interior (i.e., the rear seat placed further forward than in a standard sedan) offering either two seats or 2+2 seating (space for two passengers in the front and two occasional passengers or children in the rear). Before the days of motorized vehicles, the word referred to the front or after compartment of a Continental stagecoach.

    Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coupe'

So By definition, it sounds like Mustangs, Camaros and *some* Corvettes are "Sports Coupes" while other Corvettes are "sports cars" right?

    Hope that clears things up!

    Cheers!

If a GT Mustang isn't a sports car, then I don't want a sports car. You wouldn't find me in a Miata, I don't care how good it corners. And a red Corvette is perhaps the most iconically ridiculous vehicle on the road. I chuckle every time I see one.

To dismiss a car as being a "sports car" because its 3,300 pounds is something I respectfully disagree with. And though i will most likely never find myself in an american made sports car, to dismiss the Corvette as a sports car shook the plaque off my thinking. Though I never much liked it growing up, the corvette was always an iconic and pioneering sports car. Then to dismiss the evo & sti's as sports cars because they are four doors and tall (which have been my own words) is really dumb. Think about the word "sport," to dismiss Rally as sport is asinine. To dismiss a Corvette Z06 as sport is asinine.
Enthusiast Car is my new term. Sport car should mean any car that people put "sport" into. And people do that plenty to some some pretty strange cars, so I give up the distinction.

My garage is a "sport garage," and yet not one actually fits into the sports car definitions referenced. The Rx-8 is four doors and relatively slow, the Evo is four doors, tall and you sit upright, and the tacoma is a truck with the word sport on it!?

    Nope. They're "muscle cars".

They're not designed for handling, they just happen to handle ok. Best proof is that they have solid rear axles in 2011. No sports car built in a long time has feature that.

Not sure how we fell back into this trap...thought we addressed this earlier in the thread. Please allow me to quote myself.
    Substitute mustang/camaro/corvette for X-runner.
