Spiral, you raise a valid point. However, my max price due to budget constraints and my target price with respect to various vehicles differs greatly. Let's say you had money to buy a 2nd gen Tacoma but really wanted a first gen. Just because you could afford the 2nd gen doesn't mean you'd pay the same amount for the first gen....that's just idiocy because the vehicle isn't worth it.

Keep in mind, owning an FD would be fantastic but I'm not a complete idiot. That's why I've passed on about 10 of them in the past.

A tacoma is a tacoma. An FD is an FD;)
Your comparison is no good. If someone was asking original sticker price for a '95 Tacoma that someone had time capsuled in their garage with 5 miles on it, I wouldn't care and I wouldn't do it. However, If someone had a '95 rx7 in their garage with 5 miles on it, I would pay original sticker and call all those who wouldn't an adiot.

p.s. Thanks for calling me an idiot:D Picture soon

You know what? I just realized that you're right.

I can afford the new model Rx-7, so what the Hell am I thinking considering the pesky old '94 model:cool: I'm marching right down to Mazda first thing in the morning!

    Oh, that's right...

    That IS the difference;)

What Mazda could have done is offer the Rx-7 & the Rx-8 with the new Renesis Rotary. It falls only 20 hp short in its NA form to the Turbo produced 255 of the 7's. They could have accomplished the four-door task with the 8(which they did awesomely) and made a really small, light 2 seater NA Rx-7 that wailed.

Oh no, not at all... It's about a 8k crate engine and about 2k for the RWD conversion and about 5k for the Transmission. It's pretty expensive!

This is my toy and I love it. Absolutely nothing practical about it and fun as hell to drive. For $25K you could drop a vette V8 and suspension and it would be hard for any of the above mentioned cars to touch you :)

Even with the extra 20hp it wouldn't even be close. Hopefully you understand that the area under the curve (hp curve) with a turbocharged car is SUBSTANTIALLY higher than a high revving NA engine like the renesis.

What Mazda really should have done was make a 3 rotor version of the renesis. They made the 20b found in the Cosmos and it's fantastic. I really think they could have gotten away with keeping it NA too. An NA renesis would likely make upwards of 350hp or more. Can you even imagine?

And I still think you're missing the point. $21k is too much for that vehicle, enthusiast or not. Yes, anyone who paid that for that particular car would indeed be an idiot. It has nothing to do with the FD or it's heritage and EVERYTHING to do with how the market commands a price. You could do just as good for less money in my opinion. To pay a higher price for a good that is identical to a lower priced one is stupidity...plain and simple.

I'm a big Ford guy. But LS1's are badass. I'd crap my pants if they crammed one in a focus.

a S15 is the only 240 that would really be worth swapping a LSX into. They're soo sexy! Maybe even a nice s14 with a s15 front end conversion.

FC and FD rx7's are better for swapping than s13's and s14's. They're more of a true sports car, better looking, better brakes/chassis/suspension, larger trans tunnel, a fc chassis in good shape is super cheap considering it's potential. Also, 240's have other good easy cheap engine swaps available like sr20's etc which actually makes the cars more expensive. Rotaries blow up so much the chassis are easy to find for cheap.

Anyone driven a Saturn Sky Redline? (same thing as the Solstice GXP)

Turbo from the factory with a transmission that can hold the extra power when you mod it. Sounds like a decent drive.

I've driven one briefly. Can't remember if it was the saturn or pontiac version though. All I really remember about it was that it seemed to have extremely poor interior materials, fit and finish. Like bottom of the barrel rental car status. And the car I drove was basically brand new with extremely low miles.

Decent drive, but doesnt hold up when they are hit, some girl sideswiped me and it literally ripped her whole driver side off and we were going probably 15-20 TOPS it was so bad she couldnt get out on her side. Ended up being a 5K fix.
