the right side looks fake to me, but they could both be fake. I went through several fake ones from Amazon. they are notorious for selling fake homemade O2 sensors under brand names. I got a downstream one once and it was listed as the brand name but in a ziplock bag when it arrived. it lasted about 6 months before failing.

Don't even try to splice sensor wires.
Replace the sensor if you find any splices

    Correct
Not even A/F sensor but the connector is.

Not really correct. I splice universal fit sensors into vehicles when the correct sensor is no longer available. You need to use the splicing kit that comes with the universal fit sensor, and don't even think about soldering them.

When done correctly a universal fit sensor will give the same readings, last just as long, and pass emissions just like the no longer available 'exact fit' sensor.

Fortunately DENSO identical OEM replacement O2 and A/F sensors are readily available for 1st gens being discussed in this thread.
Unnecessary use of aftermarket universal sensors and sensor wire splicing is to be discouraged by average DIYers that lack the equipment necessary for waveform testing.

Yes, and gone are the days of the $130 vehicle specific sensor and the $30 splice-in sensor. The universal sensors are sometimes MOAR money than the vehicle specific ones now.

lol, now do you understand the possibility of it having the wrong sensor? Maybe the PO saw the cost difference between the two, cut the cable, spliced appropriate plug and tossed the O2 in there instead? If I don’t find a problem in the splice I will remove ecm to identify if it’s Cali or not. Thanks
