I don't know all the specifics but a wreck wouldn't necessarily bother me. I mean, after all, fender benders over the years have paid for several upgrades, often bumpers. :)

Laughing at the people saying this and that about which mods are unnecessary/bloated/fads like there is only one way to camp.

I used to think that until I started rolling with a WilderNest. No comparison. I went back to a ground tent this year while I work on my old 'Nest, but it'll be back in service in the spring and I can't wait.

It's ideal for destination work. I got into them when I saw one a climber friend had on his truck. As a base camp for climbing/hiking/skiing/cycling, love it. Certainly it's a major PITA for 'wheeling or anything that requires vehicle support since you can't leave your house and go.

yeah, LOL, at the tuff guys and the ones who are too cool for umbrellas

That truck OP posted is very well put together, tastefully done, with good mod/product selections and looks great to boot.

Overkill? Probably, but why not if you like "having" that stuff vs. "using" that stuff. Trust me, I've seen WAY more stupid hobbies and spending habits.

I hear ya, and I was mostly clowning around. I think they are kind of cool, but just wouldn't work for most of my camping.

I’m waiting for them to offer a rooftop tent with a snorkel (for the tent).

    For that PNW rain.

I know you kid, but in some places you can order really cool factory accessories with your Hilux, Prado or Land Cruiser. Bull bars, winches, snorkels, dual batteries, trays, step rails (not body mounted, but actual frame-mounted rails) and canopies. No RTTs, though the rest of the Toyota branded farkle is almost as good as most builds here on TW.

Factory wired aux batteries, how f'n sweet would that be?

What do we get? Chrome exhaust tips and fancy floor mats.

I would trade my bed inverter any day for a factory 2nd battery. A mod I am most seriously considering right now. Wish it was available as a stock option.

No joke. A second battery in a factory hold down with wiring in place for a balance monitoring charger and an aux fuse block.

Of all your anti-everything in this thread, I'm intrigued on why you're interested in a dual battery.

I’m not anti-anything that anyone needs, I just feel sorry for people who get sucked in to buying the trendy stuff they don’t, weighing down their truck to the point is sucks to drive, then end up taking a massive hit on resale. I’m not “anti” anything on this EBay truck, just empathetic for the fella.

Dual batteries are something that I feel I might “need” to keep me out of trouble when camping solo in remote spots, when wanting to run some 12V accessories, and to protect against a dead battery miles from a tow truck, with something better than a “jump pack”.

Anybody can justify their wants, if they want something bad enough.

    ^Truth.

I see myself starting to fall down the same rabbit hole. Like, is a jump pack really all that bad? Maybe not.

A jump pack is a perfectly acceptable solution to having a dead battery to start, if that's the sole task. Dual batteries have an advantage if you're actually running loads like a fridge, though. You can have a battery dedicated to the purpose of starting and running the truck that's isolated from one that's good at deep discharges. That means each type is doing what it was designed to do and they last longer. Asking a starting battery to run a small load for extended periods will shorten its life. There are dual-use batteries now, (like Yellow Tops) so it's not as much of an issue as it used to be. But it's still handy to not have to start the truck every day or worry if there's no sun (you /do/ have a solar panel, right?) for a couple of days.
