What did you do to your lugs?

    They look black also.

I was thinking of some of that "back to black" (or whatever it's called for restoring guns). I've seen if you put it on any kind of steel, it turns it black via a chemical reaction. I'm assuming our lugs are steel?

Same kind of prep i would think. You need to rough up the surface a bit for the paint to really cling well. So if you start with like 120 grit then work up to about 1000 grit it'll be rough but still fairly smooth. Then 3-5 coats of paint and 3-5 coats of clear coat will filly the gaps and look smooth as silk as long as you don't over spray.

as for the weights. No you don't HAVE to take them off..but you can. I didn't cause is just didn't want to screw with them at all. But you can just mark the location they were in with some tape or something and pop em off if you are comfortable doing that.

Mine also held up great btw! Wish i still had em really..

Pulled the tire and replaced with spare; cleaned with Simple Green, sanded with 400 grit, cleaned with rubbing alcohol, taped it off with painter's tape, left the weights on, painted inside and out w black semi gloss Rust-Oleum; stand em up and roll them around as you paint to get all the angles and prevent runs; left the wheel off for a day or three to let it set up nice, then repeat for next tire. Changed out the tires and had to touch up the new weights and the previous weight placement but you can't even tell. Same treatment for the caps. Took about an hour and a half per tire, including taking it off and putting on the replacement. Took about two weeks for 5 wheels, as I did em as time permitted (including the spare as a test run). I'm real happy with the results and how they've lasted.
