Do I need to compress my springs when I install my 5100's? Or can I do it without the compressor with the same results?

You will need to compress the springs to remove and install them on the struts.

when I installed my leveling kit, I was able to get them off and on, without compressing them. I was just curious to know if compressing them would make it easier.

Did the leveling kit go on top of the top plate or in the springs??

Cause I have a hard time believing you'll get the spring properly seated and tightened down without a compressor....

On top of the plate means you didn't change the springs at all. In order for you to take the springs off the current shocks and then install them on the 5100s-You will have to compress them, take the top plate off, move the springs to the new shocks, put the top plate on the new shocks, and then release the springs from the compressor.

Depends on what kind of compressor...I used a wall mounted one and it took about 20 mins for both sides....then I dropped the struts again to add a bushing and that took about 20 mins start to finish both sides...

A wall mounted spring compressor doesn't need an impact wrench...Non mounted ones are only supposed to be used with hand tools. I used all hand tools for the removal and install (cept the impact for the tires)...I had a frame lift too...

Just be careful with that loaner compressor...They can be a bit questionable if you aren't careful.

Take your time and you'll be fine.

i used the one from autozone the other night when i broke mine. i had to use two c-clamps to get it sucked down enough to do the install. i was doing 5100s with new eibach coils tho. definately dont recommend doing it that way

dont be scared...i've used the autozone ones over a handful of times and have never had a problem with them. just make sure everything is tightened down and secured properly, go slow and even and you'll be fine.

It may not fit. There is no trick. They either fit and will compress the springs or they won't and you are risking injury by trying.

If you can't get the ends properly hooked thru the spring...Try a different compressor or get them done somewhere.

If you have a harbor frieght close by they have a pretty cool compressor for $35 bucks.
