Good to know! I knew I probably couldn't get it all off anyways, but I figured I'd take a shot at the salt and dirt buildup. Probably just use the pressure hose at the DIY wash.

 

Yeah, just get the salt off. Shouldn't be too hard with some fresh water.
The FF protects best with layers. That dusty road that you went down right after the first application was good for it.
Locks in the good stuff. Kinda like a good blackened catfish.

 

Just flip it over, this rain will take care of the salt and mud for Free wash.

 

Yeah washing my truck in this freezing rain was not my brightest moment.

God damn my hands were ice. Everything was cold and wet. But now I've got two clean skid plates and a clean spare tire in my bed. And the undercarriage should be quite clean. Hit it with about $8 of high pressure wash, then I hit my windows with the RainX wash.

This experience taught me two things:

1. It's fucking miserable out. In April. I need to move back down south.
2. I really need to get a Wilco Prerunner Tiregate, because dropping the spare down is just about the worst thing ever.

The spare will remain in my bed until Sunday. Or forever. Who knows.

Sounds like you never wash it at all during the winter. They have what is called gloves for your hands.

 

Will it be a problem if our spare doesn’t drop? I’m not sure that mine will lol

 

Sell you a new spare tire lift, lightly used!

More serious note... Break out the sledge hammer

 

If the spare lift is stuck it's probably better to deal with it sooner than later...

 

I’m not sure how that would help. I think the lowering mechanism is what’s wrongs. I’ll have to give it a rip before this weekend

 

Take a look, it might just be the tire stuck to the frame. If so just lower it some and start swinging, then once it breaks free you can lower it

 

Do you have the correct type of connection on the end to lower the tire. Mine takes a star type.

 

Idk I just use the factory tool that came with the truck to stick in there....

 

So you have taken the spare off before then. My book shows to use a hook type, but it has a star connection that connects to the hook which was not in the book.

 

Yes I’ve dropped it before and used he hook. I’ll have to see if it has a stat too, thanks for the tip

 

No spare just gives me more access. Hit the crank with some penetrating oil

 

I think that is some type of anti theft mechanism... I think @tgriff has the same thing as you do. I remember him showing it to us at the last FF meet.

 

The star or key is a factory "lock" option

 

Not sure about options as my truck is a 2012 that I bought last year at this time
