There’s lot of discussion on this forum about “which OME spring for 3rd gen” and “Accutune says +600lbs gets a 700lbx14” spring” etc. I haven’t seen anything about actually calculating the correct spring rate for Tacomas. CAT scales are pretty readily available all over this country, and give people a real number to work with. Not just “I think I’m still 400lbs under GVWR with skids, sliders, full tank of gas, and an RTT”. It’s easier to make decisions with real numbers than with wishful thinking. But maybe that would solve all of this anyways...

With readily published spring rates and lengths, it’s not much more than knowing a few measurements, and balancing forces on the LCA. It really should even boil down to a simple equation that anyone can plug a few numbers into, and get an ideal spring rate for their use (obviously you then have to choose from what’s available on the market).

At some point you have to account for the natural frequency of the suspension, but I haven’t gone that far down the rabbit hole yet...

    Is there anything I’m missing?
