How much does their coverage map matter if they allow free roaming on their plan? Can a Sprint phone roam free on AT&T or Verizon lines even?

Been a sprint customer for about 12 years, have had good luck between bb's, hero, and now a pre. Their hq is in my city, gotta support local business. I would give a pinky for an iPhone on sprint but I don't see it ever happening. Hopefully the new hero will finally be a real match to the iPhone

First off, coverage maps are crap. Last time we trusted that, we rented a house in a dead zone. Since we were 100-some feet from coverage, we couldn't cancel. t-mobile's solution was that we should go outside and stand in the rain to make calls.

Not sure about the last question, but there's not at much roaming as there used to be - it's more like the others, either you have Sprint signal or you have nothing. I do remember that almost all of Yellowstone was on roaming, and it managed to pull email for me. Other than that, I don't recall having done anything while on roaming for years.

On a side note, can anyone tell me how to mute all notifications on my SPrint HTC Hero? I just got this phone today. I don't want it to wake me up at 2am if I get an email... lol So far, the Sprint coverage is better than AT&T at my house.

i know my sprint phone will roam on verizon's network with no problems. very seldom does it do it but it has a few times.. lucky for me i live near the intersection of two major interstates and all providers cover the interstate pretty well...

Yeah...sprint phones roam on verizon and alltel too and vice versa.

I've had sprint for about 12 years...been pretty happy. Their network used to drop calls a lot and their customer service used to suck big time, but now they've got all their bugs worked out.

Most, if not all 3G cell providers have a cap on their "unlimited" data plans. I think sprints is 5gb/month. From what I've heard there won't be such a cap on the EVO 4g when it's got a wimax connection.

I'll be getting one when it comes out...upgrade comes in right at the suspected release dates.
