So here's my issue. last week I took my 2001 SR5-TRD to the wash-rack to degrease the engine bay. I used greased lightning then hit it with the power-washer, everything but the battery and fuse box. I drove it home and it started sputtering during acceleration, and stops sputtering once I reached my cruising speed. the next day I replaced my K&N with an OEM air filter since my initial thought was water got in the air box. the K&N filter was wet, but beyond the air filter was dry. I still have the same issue and it sucks. does anyone here know what's up or has ever had this happen, please help my truck out.

I've searched threads on this and haven't got the answer yet.

Check out your MAF, is my first thought; especially if your air filter got wet
    Those wire-sensors are pretty sensitive
And a faulty MAF will cause problems like your describing

Spark plugs would be my next guess, with high-pressure water getting sprayed in there; even though they're pretty well sealed

beyond maf was dry because engine sucked it in. go down the line. check stuff. maf. iac. coils. plugs. wires. really you shouldnt powerwash. this will also mess up alt, power steering pump, ac compressor, push in through seals on block, overall you could have a really bad time. on the plus side, doing this work, the engines clean!

UPDATE: cleaned the MAF, checked the TPS, and installed a new upstream o2 sensor. runs much better but still not 100%... I noticed my check engine light flashing 3 times and know that usually means I'm in trouble of melting my CAT, so I popped the hood and found an exhaust leak passenger side after the headers and before the "down pipe" with my upstream o2 sensor, it looks like it's attached with 3 studs. does anyone know what this pipe is called and how to fix this leak? I haven't had the chance to take it to get the code read yet, but would appreciate some insight if you have any to give.

Water in the spark plugs. I had the same situation and had to switch my plugs out and dry it up.

I had the same symptoms on a vehicle awhile back. Found one of the spark plugs had a broken insulator. I think water hit it and because it was hot, it cracked.

I know this is digging way back on the forum but what was the end result? I'm having the same problem with mine now. It was high pressure rinsed about 6 months ago but did not start having problems till about a week ago. Mine sputters when I accelerate from around 57-58mph in 4th. Been raining a crap ton here so maybe something got wet?

drove through a reallly flooded intersection during heavy rains. i believe the water splashed up and hit my cables, causing them to arc. apparently they arc easily, the other day i was cleaning my throttle body and was putting vacuum tubes back on while the engine was running. my finger got near the wires and I got zapped. make sure the wires aren't laying on grounded metal.

Had the same thing happen to me when I owned my dodge. Water got down in the spark plugs. Had to let them dry out and then replace them. Once I did that it fixed the issue. Glad to hear that fixed your problem

I'm having this same problem with my 2012 DCSB. At 30-40 MPH I'm getting the sputtering, we did have some decent rain fall here in Califor5over the past few weeks. I cleaned out the MAS, k&N is cleaned, throttle body is clean, should I check my plugs?

Generally sputtering is caused by lack of ignition, so yes, check your plugs. Probably worth changing. Remember to not skimp out and go oem. First gens called for dual prong iridium's and it does make a difference.
