As for the 5 inches back, thats what my quest has consisted of trying to find more or less. I feel like a bed rack designed for a short bed would work, granted it doesn't require use of the front track. I just dont have access to a friend with one to try.

I drove to New Mexico from Oklahoma with them and bikes didn’t move at all. It gets really windy here in Oklahoma and have never had an issue.

I took some install pics + address the long awaited answer to the Fat Bike question...
- Also fits with a Truxedo Truxport roll-up cover.
- Currently using a small bungee cord for the rear tire, only because my TitanStraps have not arrived yet.
- Bike is a Giant Yukon, Rear tire is a 27.5x4.50, fits perfect. Probably around 8psi.
- @Nimble9 also throws in some clamps for the rear mount, but these clamps were not needed for my particular install (tonneau cover).

 

I'd worry about that bungy having too much stretch to it that the rear tire would bounce up and down. Or cause the bungy to slip.

But I still think this is the coolest way of transporting bikes.

 

It survived some battering on logging roads this morning, didn’t move or come loose. It’s also not my permanent solution as mentioned in my post.

 

Looks like a great solution, but still don't understand if it will fit with a factory tri-fold OEM cover (??), and if the mounts are easily removable when not transporting a bike. I can see myself whacking into those things fairly often if the bike isn't on there.

I thought I read somewhere that the OP can't guarantee the compatibility with different toppers and tonneau covers due to different layouts and different configurations. Also that this was designed specifically with soft topper owners in mind.

Based off these pictures, if the OP is unsure, you might be the best judge if it'll fit.

That's super helpful. Looks like it might fit under the factory tonneau cover, but doesn't look like something easily removed or reinstalled, so puts it out of the picture for me. I don't want those things hanging off the side all the time. Thanks for the clarification.

 

My bad! Totally missed that!

It's a total of 6 nuts that take a single 14mm socket to install and uninstall. I'd say minus paint it takes maybe 5 minutes to install with an open bed. The more laborious task would be making sure the tonneau cover is installed nicely and in fact compatible with these mounts. I haven't tested with an OEM cover, so I can't say for sure it'll fit 100%. If you were local I'd say lets test it out!

 

No worries, thanks for getting back to me. I think its a great design, but if it had a sturdy yet easily (quick release of some sort) removeable function to it, I'd be all in. Right now it doesn't seem like it would be any quicker or better than using my hitch rack. Great innovation and outside the box thinking though!

I have a rough country hard trifold bed cover do you think this system would work with it?

 

I haven't tested a set with that cover, so I can't say that it will or won't.
