After I lubed my drivetrain I have been getting some squeaking when I pull out of parking spaces. Just recently the squeak, which sounds like someone jumping on an old mattress, has started when I drive as well as back up but not as loud... The noise seems to be coming from the rear drive shaft/propeller shaft. Aft of the center bearing...

    Any ideas? U-joint? Center/hanger bearing?

It's not leaf springs, it only happens when in gear

In gear and not moving? Or squeaks while actually reversing?

I have greased them. The squeaking started after but it had been probably too long since the were greased last. Old grease did come out, so not dry.. Happens when I back out of a parking space.. In gear, moving

Brake pad wear indicator? I've had customer's vehicles only squeal when backing up, just a thought.

Defiantly not the brakes. I do know that sound, and my brakes have all been done recently.

How would I know which u-joint? Haven't noticed any play/clunking when moving the drive shaft by hand...

They dont always "clunk" at first, usually the first sign is a sqeaking, its the needle bearings chewing on one another the clunk is when they're coming apart

So when ordering parts, are the Toyota u-joints superior over Moog, ACDelco or Dana?

5100's, Toytec coils, all-pro standard 3" lift leaf springs.
I had a squeak that started out only happening in reverse, progressively it began to squeak while moving forward too. Just changed out the rear most u-joint today, the one at the diff, now my truck is quiet and I'm a happy camper. Three out of the four caps on the old u-joint looked alright, needle bearings intact, the last one, had only dust in it, which I'm guessing is what was left of the needle bearings in that one.

What u-joints did you decide to go with? Thinking about replacing mine.

Camelbak Toyota has them listed at $52, but aftermarket's are less than $15.

I haven't decided yet, one dealer said $70, rock auto has them from $5-$30. I won't go w the cheapest but it's not clear if Toyota is really 2.3 times better..
