I’m working on a friend’s truck, chasing down a squeak/rattle in his dash.
I’m thinking of putting some duct tape, felt, or thin (1mm thick) rubber “tape” over the clips, like in the picture.
Any thoughts? I’m wanting something to act as a buffer/cushion between the clip & the “receiving” clip.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have a rattle type squeak as well on the passenger side usually when it’s cold out, can’t seem to find where it’s coming from, I’m thinking A pillar to dash area at the speaker like your pic, I’ll have to follow this to see if it fixes the issue

The 1mm rubber is actually a sound deadening material; I wonder if it'll help with the squeaking sound.

to the OP, yes I think you should put tape in that area.

to others, the pillar/dash is a known area for squeaks.

so far, the majority of the squeaks and rattles i fixed were occurring from the plastic panels contacting metal supports. i put gorilla tape over the metal and it seems to have worked.

other areas i read where squeaks and annoying noises come from is along the door weather strips. as someone mentioned above, they are more noticeable in colder temperatures.

i have a new ticking noise recently that seems to be coming from the upper latch on the access door. i have not had the time to try and fix this one......

Sounds good. I have some felt with adhesive backing I got at a crafts store that I used for some woodworking projects. Maybe I'll try that.

On my 2017 I bought thin felt that was sticky on one side from a craft store. Took out the two dash speaker covers and wrapped the edges and area’s inside liberally. No more squeaks and rattles.

Sounds good. I'll try the felt that I have. It sounds like it's the same stuff you have, from a local crafts store.

The cold dash squeak is from contact on the outside face of the grille to the pillar trim. Putting something on there like sound insulation with gooey adhesive will just have it sliding off when it sees some sunshine down the road.

Use a hard glue like CA or an epoxy.

You can test this by shoving something like a toothpick or folded paper in the gap. If it kills the squeak, add something like felt or loop tape with a hard glue.

I have the same issues with my windows. The doors feel and sound like they're made of tinfoil.

i thought something was loose but couldn't find anything. i guess the windows just have play in their tracks. tried cleaning and lubing the window tracks with dry silicone but didn't help at all.

I thought the girlfriend had left something small in the door cup holder yesterday but now I'm trying to find the weird little rattle on the passenger side. I think I'll be doing this here soon. Those little noises are driving me insane.

I thought about that, but wouldn't that tear as the clip is pushed back into the dash? What type of foam tape would you recommend? Thanks for any help you can offer.

We sell some in our store. It's sticky on one side and measures: 1/8" X 2" X 30FT. Now you say whoa, that's a 10 year supply. We sell it for only $7.85 for the box.
Search out a commercial HVAC Parts Store near you and ask if they stock it. If you strike out, we can ship it to you, but it will cost more than the tape. :).
