Like the thread title says. 440 miles is a little early for a ujoint to be shitting the bed wouldn't you say?

Leaf springs can squeak on Tacoma. Give it a few more miles then take it in to complain, a video can help them diagnose.

Only does it in reverse gear. Like backing up in the driveway. Truck is 100% stock if that matters. And it's been an easy 225 miles or so. Can't be held responsible for the first 215 miles as that's what it had on it when I bought it.

    Foot on brake while noisy?

Every time or just after a long rest, like overnight?

Can't answer about the brake. Just don't honestly remember. Started today. Every time I back up. If I was driving my GMC I would guarantee it's ujoints.

I'll go out and check brake vs no brake.

OK, without touching brake equals squeak squeak squeak. Put foot lightly on brake while still reversing and it either goes away or sounds more like a pulsing rubbing noise without a squeak.

    Drums wearing in????

Funny thing is this morning I was feeling smug as I have no vibration, rumble strip, howling, excessively hunting transmission, etc.

Those only happen with lift. And only sometimes. I have 32" tires and 3" of lift on my 2016 on the stock needle bearing (no ECGS bushings) with none of those issues, and I'm not exactly unusual. That said, my Dakar leaf springs are creaky. It doesn't really bother me. I can see that being annoying on a new truck though.

Your truck is under warranty. Stop complaining here and go to the dealership!

Report back when they've fixed it in case someone else ends up with the same issue. There's not really any sense in complaining about it here, no one here can do anything about it.

Not complaining. Just trying to figure out what it could be. Soonest I could get back to the dealership is next Saturday.

Make sure you figure out how to make it happen every time, as a common dealer response is 'can't replicate'.

The see if you can show the tech before he takes it back to the magic room.

My guess is its a brake noise, no safety issue. But something like the front shims need 'brake quiet', pins need lube, etc.

Well yesterday it mostly went away. However this morning it came back with a vengeance. Squeaks in reverse and it now either squeals or grinds or both when you tap the brakes. Still does not do this in drive, only reverse. Called dealer. Taking it in at 3pm.

Have not taken it offroad nor have I hit anything. Hopefully dealer figures it out and does not say "can't replicate customer issue".

    Update.

Dealership went out of their way to apologize for the problem. Tech had no problems duplicating the noise. Tech found one of the passenger side drum brake shoe linings had a 'lip' on one of the ends that should of been dressed off during a) manufacture or b) during assembly of the truck. Tech dressed the lip off and cleaned the dust mess up inside the drum assembly. The techs then inspected the vehicle for any more possible issues and found none. No squeaks, squeals, rubbing, grinding, etc now.

Wrong. Stock TRD Sport DCLB 4WD. Rumble strip at 20mph.

Really? Those are the self imposed limitations we're placing on posts around here? If the collective brain trust can't do anything about it from behind our keyboards, keep your trap shut and go to the dealer? Uh, ok.

    Update #2.

Have driven quite a few miles since last post in this thread. Used reverse multiple times. Nothing but pure silence. I'd say the issue is solved. So two thumbs up for the dealership techs that discovered and repaired the problem and had me back on the road in an hour:thumbsup::thumbsup:. We here at TW tend to shit on dealerships quite often. It's nice when a dealership does the right thing in an efficient manner.

Good need for you. Wish I had a decent dealership close to me. Mine has denied warranty on my leaking / broken 3rd brake light and dead battery at under 36k this month.
