Hello everyone! Been a long time lurker, but haven’t had anything much to post about my tacoma. I have a 2003 Tacoma PreRunner 4CYL Regular Cab Automatic. Everything has been great with it, except for one issue. Whenever I go over about 20 MPH, I start to hear a squeaky sound come from underneath the truck. It doesn’t sound like it’s coming from the engine. When I apply acceleration the sound ceases. But anything over 20, with my foot off the gas, I hear a squeak. One remedy I found was greasing the Zurg joints underneath on the drive shaft but it only lasts so long. The sound is accentuated especially if it’s cold outside. Any suggestions anyone might have would help!:)

Search the term 'leaf spring squeak'.

While that might not be your problem, it takes minimal effort to experiment and see if the noise stops. If it does, you can move to a more permanent solution.

I was also going to suggest checking your leaf packs for 1. tightness and 2. not being overly dirty.

Mine squeak when they flex if they’re dirty. Hose them down and they’re quiet for a good while.

Interesting. I've been hearing a squeak from the rest for a while and my leaf springs are covered in road dust and gravel.

Does it squeak at very low speeds in reverse? But based on what you already said it sounds like your u-joints are bad. Have you ever had the driveline rebuilt/u-joints replaced?

I bought the truck when it had about 189k on the clock, brought it up to 209k. The previous owner kept an extensive history of replacements and maintenance but I don't see a single thing about the replacement of the u-joints or driveline. I will definitely check that out with my local mechanic, as I am not that mechanical savvy.

I tried what you said and while reversing at low speeds it does not squeak, I forgot to mention that
