No worries , just making sure we're on the same page

Do you not think the Defined set up would eliminate the main point of noise / bind the way it is designed ?

A greasable shackle will lube the outside of the bushing, and a greaseable bolt would grease the inside, preferably without the metal sleeve to the grease gets to the bushing??

Of the three "squeak zones" above, it primarily will address the last one. It can help with the middle one depending if there's a gap between the bushings. It won't help at all with the thru bolt/sleeve.
Regardless, you still have to loosen the bolt before you grease or you risk blowing out the bushing. For the price you pay for those shackles...I'd rather just grease it manually. Also gives you the opportunity to clean out dirt and debris which is the main cause of noise.

Do you know what happens to leaf spring bushings that don't have sleeves? There's a reason they come with sleeves.

Don't you need to remove the bushing in order to grease it manually ?

and what exactly do you mean about loosening the bolt prior to greasing or risk blowing the bushing ? Do you mean to allow for excess grease to escape ?

I'm thinking oval... This is what confused me. It's from the website selling the greasable bolts
"1. You need to replace stock rubber bushings with polyurethane, since petroleum-based grease will attack rubber. Also note that with stock rubber bushings, grease is really not needed anyway. The carbon black in rubber helps to lubricate the bolt and often rubber bushings have steel sleeves bonded inside and there is thus no sliding contact that needs grease anyway. Simple rule of thumb: poly=grease, rubber=no grease.
    2. For maximum effectiveness, the bushings should not have a steel sleeve installed, since the idea of the greaseable bolt is to get grease in between the bolt and the bushing. If a sleeve is present then the grease can't get out of the sleeve.
    3. For example, on Toyota bushings, the sleeves have an ID of 14mm and an OD of 18mm and in the poly bushings, the sleeve is easily removable. So, if you want a greaseable bolt in a normally sleeved bushing, simply order the poly replacement bushing, omit the sleeve when installing it and specify that the bolt for the shackle be made in 18mm instead of the stock 14mm size."
I thinks he's talking about 1st gen, but same principle. This totally off base?

Thanks for the heads up. Still haven't got my Dakars installed yet but will have plenty of time to gather necessary hardware. I did order the set of poly bushings from wheelers.

So...let's theoretically say that someone used anti-seize instead of grease for the bolts/inside of the sleeve. Should I...I mean, they, put some grease in there? It's quiet at the moment.

Anti seize is absolutely fine on the metal on metal between bolt and sleeve.

    Peace of mind attained. Thanks.
It felt right at the time, I guess it's not going to rust. As long as it keeps quiet I'm happy.

Antiseize works great on the front main eye bolt. I buttered up my last set of Wheeler's 5-packs in, uh, a few years ago, and when I swapped them out for Daks a couple months ago, the bolts and AS looked like the say I put them in. Buttered up, bright color, no dirt or apparent degradation.
    VVVVVV
:anonymous:Brand new, before I ever put them on.

I'd bitchslap you Kevin, but I've been there too.

Used rust reformer and black satin in non-contact or minimal abrasion areas.

Sprayed CRC moly lube btween leaves.

OME greasable shackle bushings. I have better pics comparing this to the Wheeler's copies, which are very different with channelling for grease, including on the contact areas for the shackle side plates. I have a pic of the OME greasable bolts somewhere, and they are of a far superior quality than the grade 5 Daystar version.
