I did grind off all the paint and mill scale and rust in the areas it typically occurs, primarily in the inter-leaf contact area, and on the inside/bends of the retaining clips. Elsewhere, the paint was well adhered, and there did not appear to be scale to serve as rust seedbeds.

I also did several coasts of moly on the bare metal in these ground areas. Once reassembled, I painted the entire packs, and once intstalled, I fluid filmed.

On first gens, the full military wrap does not allow for the pond liner without complete disassembly (at least not on my set). I was going to try some 1/8 thick UHMW, but it was too thick for that area at the front. And I was not able to obtain 1/16 with adhesive backing in time before I had to reassemble for our Utah trip, but that was my next thought and I think it would work.

Thanks. ARB is sending me a new set. :)

Here is how I received my springs. Zero packaging.

I saw your post with paint, looked good. Gave me more motivation do to mine.

I did a lot of research on which product to lube the springs. Dry lube seemed the way to go. Moly and or PTFE. I got both and will use both when I rebuild my pack.

Mine showed up with zero packaging, busted plastic, and they squeak pretty bad at just 4-5k miles. I'm not mad, as I got exactly what I was expecting. Still irritating though on an otherwise perfect set for my needs.

The CRC dry moly spray is not easy to find nor cheap. It requires ground shipping. You can get it on Amazon, but you can also get it from Fastenal. I called a local Fastenal because my schedule was tight, and he did not have any in stock, but another one 30 miles away did, and they transfer stock between stores for free, so consider that if it helps you. I had it the next day. Get at least 3 cans. I think I got 5, and I used 2. I think.

EDIT: Oh, you already got some....

Damn I only ordered one 14oz can! That's good to know that Fastenal can get it too. Will try them. Thx!

My squeaks started after 2 weeks and three washes. I think it's the bushings though. The shop did't use the lube I supplied and told me they did lube the bushings (I doubt it though). The squeaks come and got. Not a big deal currently, but I might consider lubing them in the future.

They come with the front bushings only. I'm gonna use the u bolt flip with my install, for extra ground clearance.

    1. What do you mean PITA? They are pretty simple. Or do you mean prefurbishing?

    2. Did you buy your leafpacks from the year 1897? Not surprised they're rusting.

non specific source of pain, not visible, these are a normal set of dakar springs, i'm just not overjoyed with the idea of a fix
