I got some scraps at my lumber supply

The long term issue with the strips is keeping them there , if you aren't flexing the leafs a whole bunch , they stay put pretty well , but they will move if the leafs seperate a lot .

Fortunately this area tends to stay in contact most of the time

I just parked so that the front of the pack was unloaded , jammed a long flat screwdiver betwwen the leafs and slipped in the strip , what worked best for me was to wrap the strip around the leaf and tuck the ends in before pulling out the screwdriver

Adding some adhesive to the equation is probably the ultimate solution but I haven't been bothered to try that yet

hrm well I dont really do any major flexing I dont think, bumpy gravel roads are about the worst I see and I rarely put anything heavy in the bed. I will smear some glue on em before installation tho anyway.

think you could cut me a pair and drop em in the mail mabye sir?

Thinking about removing a leaf from my dakars tonight before i start the install this weekend, i figured while i have them apart i should try to "squeak proof" them. I don't think i can get my hands on any EPDM anytime soon. What do you guys think about using rubber shower pan liner? Or maybe bicycle tubes? And does anyone know where i can find torque specs for the center pins?

Rubber shower pan liner is EPDM , IIRC

Didn't know that. I was thinking of roll roofing and it seems like a different material from what i remember. Maybe it is just thicker. Ill look into that and probably try it out. Thanks

Thanks OZ as we have talked before on the dakar installs. I like your solution and will try it when I get the next chance, my work sells shower pan liner so it readily available . I don't wheel/ flex it too much so this is a great option for me.

Anyone come up with a somewhat permanent solution, other than the rubber between the leafs ? My squeak is getting worse :frusty:

Did this today. I was going to buy new leaf springs (currently have AAL's installed). Just the driver side would squeak at every stop-n-go I did. Jacked up the truck with the jack on the frame to let the load off the spring. Started spraying down everywhere I could see friction areas. Guess what...no more squeaks. We'll see how long this lasts. Didn't want to buy new OME's and after reading this thread it may not have fixed the squeak.

Great info and finally, I do not hear squeaking.

Yeah , I found the squeak to be at the bushing , but not from the bushing

Post up how it works out

I would not suggest a silicone based spray lubricant, it tends to be a bit aggressive on the rubber bushings.

I would recommend: it sprays on wet and drys.

Depending on what kind of bushings they are... if rubber you don't want any grease on them other than a little on the bolts & you DEF. don't want to grease the leafs, grease is sticky & attracts dirt, grease dries out some & now the dirt & debris that was on/in the grease is deposited between the leafs & they're going to squeak
