Do these require greasing on initial install?

I have thousands of miles on mine. I've added 2 leafs and when I did I added 4 smallish dabs of grease across each leaf. Never a peep out of them. It's a lot of work I know but beats the price tag of deavers.

I greased mine on install and was squeak free for quite some time - around 10k-ish miles, if not more, after which the squeak was relentless! I've posted in this thread before and I'll echo myself - spraying motorkote engine treatment on the pads works like a champ! I forgot where I heard that little trick but it certainly works.

I followed the TSB listed earlier in this thread and holy shit i'm so happy that i got this creaking noise fixed. I was at my wits end with that noise! Just jacked it up one side at a time. Spread the leafs with a pry bar and used a putty knife and spread the lucas oil red n tacky on them sumbitches and creak go bye bye. Took maybe 30 mins. 10 of that was sitting there in disbelief that i should have done this years ago while sipping a Yuengling.

    COOL Stuff I can't afford . . . But I bought anyway!
This, right here, 90% of the problem. Why they don’t ship these with and rubber on the isolators I will never know.

So this is the perfect fix! It’s listed many times here, but this was a simple fix. Jack the truck from the frame, not the axle, let the seuspension sag, use a crow bar and pry the ends of the leafs down. Use pliers (NOT YOUR HANDS!) to remove the old isolators. Place the new dorman isolators in and align the holes with the pegs (with pliers, if the crowbar slips out you’re gonna loose a finger). Release the crowbar. Give the end of the leaf a whack with a deadblow hammer and it will seat the isolator. Problem solved. You will need to trim the inner isolators tab to about 1/4”. No more squeak.

    Yup. Easy.
OME really sh*t the bed on these packs. I bet some bean counter got in there and cut costs.

For me the squeakiest ones were the small ones by the end bushings. I greased them and that would only last about 3-4 days before squeaking again. They're about 1/2 the size of the normal pads (35mm in diameter) and there's 4 of them. Got them out with a prybar and some screwdrivers, wasn't too difficult. Had to cut down the Dorman pads to size, but since I put them in there it's been blissful silence. They've been wet they've been muddy, so far not a squeak to be heard. Hopefully they hold up, but if they don't they're not that hard/expensive to replace. Better than squeaky. Such a relief! Thanks y'all for the research and suggestions, I love this forum.

Just got a new set of Dakars

looks like OME may have changed a few things. Hopefully these don’t squeak like the older versions.

They’re painted, rubber protectors on the rebound guides and silencers are different.

Yes, you have the new updated ones.

There were a couple of years when they were shit (that's when I got mine). It happens when a company chaces profit over quality, piggybacking on a good reputation that was hard-earned. At least OME made the corrections and appears to be back on track.

The silence is beautiful. I'm so glad I found this thread. One of the easiest mods I've done too.

Noise with this leaf pack is going to vary widely.. think about all the variables involved with each of our applications. Region, driving conditions, weight, etc.. Jack up the rear of the truck, lower onto stands at the frame on driver/pass side of truck so the rear hangs. Grease gun with a needle and a pry bar and screwdriver. Pry each spring apart near the pads, then insert screwdriver to keep them apart, you apply grease onto the top/bottom of pad, but I also shot grease up through the hole
at the center of each pad from underneath as it was obviously designed to allow. I instantly went from constant squeaks to silence. With each leaf open I could see small rocks that made their way in and were the most likely culprit of the noise and was able to clean them out. It’s easy to do, takes less than 30 minutes, and will resolve the noise issue.

I just greased my elr111 or whatever medium packs, just used a needle nose end and did all the pads.
I had a tiny squeak and now it's gone

    Love it!

Resurrecting this thread. I put the new style OME springs on my 04 over the summer. They have about 4000 miles, at most. They are squeaking. These are the new style pictured by Xero's post on this thread on June 15 2022. I tried greasing through the isolator pads with a needle on the grease gun, and spreading grease on the contact points with a putty knife. Re-torqued all of the bolts. This did nothing to help. Super disappointing, having been under the impression OME fixed this issue. Any ideas?
