Cool. Front locker is on the short list, but my rig will never be SASed. No point for my purposes.

Hey Brett within the next couple of weeks I'm going to need the drill bits. Not a big deal but I'm going to need it for drilling through the tundra axle to relocate the diff fill plug. You have my number and we can work something out when I can get it from you. I would of text you but I guess I never saved your number.

Chainsaw weights a lot less than when I had 4 gallons of gas in that spot. Broke on the trail, just driving down a bumpy road. Didn't notice till we set up camp. The little bracket and the latch kept it from falling off entirely.

Wasn't referring to the weight. :stirthepot:
I can't remember what it looked like before it broke. The one I made several years ago uses a 5/8" bolt for the pivot and is supported at the underside of the bumper too. I'll post up a pic for ya. Has held a 37" tire on a steel rim with a high lift jack for years.

I realize your bumper has some odd angles at the bottom but it shouldn't matter. I'm betting we could do something similar with what you already have.
Here you can see the bolt going all the way through the bumper and out the top of the swing arm which is only 1 1/2" x3/16"

Here you can see the lower part of the swing arm which is simply a length of flat stock, welded to the upper arm via the vertical bracket. The head of the bolt is just visible underneath. The flat washer is my "bearing".

So the swing arm in essence wraps around the bumper when closed. Let me kill some yellow jackets and I'll get a pic of it open.

My el cheapo but highly functional latch :anonymous: seen too many clamp style latches hanging open in the past.

Open. It will open clear to the side of the truck but the garage is currently in the way.

So you can see, open or closed it's supported in a way that the bolt can't shear and it doesn't sag or rattle. Because it's a friction fit bearing so to speak, I have no need for a stop. It stops and stays where I leave it.

Hopefully you don't mind the pics but maybe it will give you some ideas

Thanks for the pics, it certainly gives me some ideas. Was eyeballing @Wishbone Runner 's setup but can't make sense of a dual sheer setup when the swingout has to sit on top of the face of the bumper. He's got a big ass bolt with some fancy brass impregnated bushings as bearings.

You think if I hole saw through both sides of the 2x6 3/16" wall main tubing of my bumper, and mount the swingarm with a bolt single sheer it would hold? Thought about using a bigger hole saw and sleeving the rectangular tubing around the bolt. Could also make a similar dual sheer (sheer and a half) bracket to what I had.

I would do double shear. I have never understood the concept behind single shear, trailer axle mounted swingouts. The bearings are retarded, why are they needed for something that rotates 180° and no more is beyond me. Plus the load is completely different than what an actual axle really sees. Yours is not the first I have seen break.
    But I digress,

I would drill through the entire bumper, a grade 5 bolt is sufficient, 5/8" minimum. Grade 8 is better.
You can keep the upper mount tube but you may have to sleeve it internally to get it down to 5/8" or 3/4" id for the bolt to sit snug. I don't know what yours looks like internally. Seriously, I'd just cap that tube with 3/16" plate both ends and drill a hole of your desire right through the middle. It will hold just fine.
Then fab a vertical bracket, with matching bumper bends, connected to a horizontal lower swing out and run the bolt through that. My bumper being square was easy but yours could be done the same way. It will be stronger than you think. I did not have high hope for mine when I built it and was surprised at how solid it ended up being. That's why it looks like scrap was used, it was, and I ended up leaving it because the whole truck is scrap :)

Looking at this pic. cap off the bearing support tube top and bottom and drill vertical right through the bumper and the new caps. fab your lower assembly and run the bolt right through it. Done deal.
