That was my biggest concern was how to design the pivot point and if I should add a second arm. Is it annoying having to swing out the spare to access the bed of your truck? What are some of the best ways to secure the other end of the arm? What are most people using?

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
I have a swing out and topper as well on my truck. The only time it is a hassle is when you are in a parking lot and somebody parks behind you. I can post a pick of my latch in a little if you would like. I can remember exactly what you would call Brett's latch, but it is basically a ubolt with a handle on it. I think it is rated for 2000 lbs, but don't quote me on that.

Comp4x4 sells lots of nice spindles. Double and single sheer.

The biggest single sheer spindle you can by is a JCR one. I have it on my truck, its the size of a pop can. Freaking huge but also very expensive.

Not that big of a hassle to get into the bed, but it does add one more step.

I think they're called pull action toggle clamps. I like yours better, not sure what they're called, and they won't work it all situations.

My spindle that broke was a comp 4x4.

Make your own latch, spindle, swing out, etc...;)
I like the pull action toggle's. Don't like that they aren't readily available at any reputable hardware store.

Here is my latch. It is really nice and won't open on accident. Also it comes with option to put a lock on it if you want.

True story, last time I followed him, I kept turning down the radio trying to figure out what was falling off the truck.

Now will I have to beef up the bumper on the side that the swing out will be mounted on?

That why i like the locking toggles you can get from MCmaster or whatever. 2000lb rating and adjustable U bolt. Locks down so it won't open up.

:brianr: it doesn't rattle any more

There is a set screw on the clasp location so you can increase the tention.

Drill a hole for the spindle sleeve right behind the tail light or lights if your doing a dual. Yours pokes out enough you could do a stand up double sheer spindle too.
