I hear what appears to be a belt squeal as I let my clutch out and start to accelerate gently. This only happens when the truck is starting off on a slight uphill with very low rpms. The squeal just last as long as the rpms are low or the engine is under load. Truck is a 4 cylinder with 60k miles. It also may be my imagination, but I hear the exact same squeal or chirp as the truck goes over small bumps in the road. It is just a very brief chirping sound.

Will the serpentine belt be going out this soon? Is it an adjustment issue? Any ideas? Thanks

I think I may have the exact same problem. Chirpy cricket noise occurs during acceleration from a stop under light loads at rpms near idle, like when parking or moving up a hill. When in neutral, pressing in the clutch does not produce the noise. Also while in neutral, reving the engine does not produce the noise either. I just hit 60K last week.

Could it be the TO bearing?

    Idler pulley going bad?

If you press the clutch in does the noise lessen or go away?

Noise only occurs when lightly accelerating from a stop (like in a parking lot situation) and at low rpms while letting out the clutch in 1st gear. If I really rev the engine (and risk burning the clutch) i do not get the noise. Noise is most prevalent when keeping the clutch in the friction zone and barely applying any throttle. It mostly occurs once the engine is warmed up. Other than that, while normal driving or idling, I do not hear it.

Could be your Throw out bearing...

I've heard a bad pulley will whine louder as you accelerate.

The noise has been bugging me for some time now and after reading some stuff from the other Tacoma forums, I think it's just the clutch making noise as it slips. Much like how a brake rotor and pads make noise under certain conditions. It does happen much more often after driving in stop and go traffic, so I believe maybe heat has something to do with it? Anywho, I've decided not to worry about it anymore and just enjoy driving my truck.
