I have a squeezing coming from rear differential or u joint on my 1st gen. It happens only when the vehicle is in motion. Doesn't sound like it's coming from the wheels. When I rev the engine in neutral no sound. Any thoughts on what it may be?

Could be your u-joints, as you already suggested. Lube them, and see if that makes a difference.
