.177 cal lead pellets with the steel BB in the tip, will penetrate their skull and bring them down quick. Gas operated pellet guns are more accurate and kick less than the spring only type. Check out The Sportsmans Guide for great deals and selection. I wouldn't use 22lr close to other homes, might come down and do harm.

That's awesome. Much more humane than poisoning them.

I wouldn't use poisons. You might end up killing someone's pet or critters that aren't what you're out for. Keep trapping and relocating or use a pellet gun. Squirrel is supposedly great table fare so at least you aren't wasting the meat if you shoot and serve.

Or, stop worrying about them if the worst damage they've done is chew some Christmas lights? Sounds like a lot of headache over some rather inexpensive lights

I run .22 shorts in my squirrel gun. Nice and quiet, keeps the neighbors happy (and the GF, since I usually pick them off sniper-style from inside the house  )

Edit- Mine is also a Marlin bolt gun, btw. A 50's-vintage 81, with a 4x Weaver of similar age

In the city limits myself I use a slingshot with ball bearing you can get at walmart total under 30 works perfect an silent. Takes some practice getting deadly accurate with it.

    Precisely.

With .22 shorts and this method the GF can be in the garden and I can pick a squirrel out of the trees in the side yard and she won't even hear it. One time she actually saw one fall and had to ask me if I'd shot it because she hadn't heard the report.

I'm starting to lean this route... I've been out this morning with my pellet gun, but the bastards are so high up in the tree, I can't get them with it.

Not a bad idea, but I don't think I could get them with the range I need with that.

I was gonna say, 22 quiet rounds. Perfect for inside the city or even inside the house.

Thanks! I practiced for a month at cans till I felt comfortable enough to aim at a live target.

    **Update**
waiting for my next work assignment at home, just got another with the 760 pumpmaster... but it landed in the front yard... waiting for lady walking her small children on the sidewalk by the house to leave before I go get it.

Not sure I'd go on a public forum and tell people to use firearms aimed up in a city, even if it is the 22 short. Sounds like the perfect place to use a pellet gun.
