I have an SR without remote lock/unlock and I want a key to unlock the doors only.

I went to a key shop and had a copy of my two sided Toyota key made without the chip. It was only two dollars.

It is the same pattern, as far as I can tell by holding the two keys together.

It won't unlock the door, or even turn.

My question is, will the key not work because it has no chip or because it isn't cut exactly the same?

When I use the original key, there is no real resistance felt as the key turns the lock mechanism. This makes me to think it doesn't work the same as the mechanical locks I've seen in the past and is more electronic then manual and must have the chip activated to work.

My only thought is to work on the key with a wire brush and small file.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Have them cut another key or have the person that cut the key try it in the lock. Probably just needs a little material ground off. I had one made at the local Toyota dealer. $11.00 + tax.

Thank you. That was the answer I was hoping to get.

I did the same... grind a small amount off of the tip of the new key... it's probably too long...
